AC3 to FLAC? -

I've just bought the re released version of my favourite album ever, and the 2nd disc is a DVD with the entire album in Dolby Digital
I would like to be able to rip the tracks into a lossless format and for (XBMC) to simply play them back as 6 channel tracks
Could you let me know if this is possible, and if so, how would i do it?
thanks very much

Why though, XBMC can playback raw AC3 streams, not sure if it works in the Music player side of things as these days i use MediaPortal, but i don't see why it shouldn't be able to.
DVD AC3 is 448kbps for 6 channels, so less than 75k per channel, so in no way lossless, not trying to be snidey, just seems a waste when you you just rip and playback the original file.
Anyway, when i rip DVDs or BluRay's, this is the software i use.

The reason is because i would like to be able to pick the track i want, rather than mount the DVD image, go through the menu and pick the song that way - FLAC just seemed the easiest format to use, i appreciate the original format isn't lossless though
Do you see what i mean?
thanks

Yeah, that i do, not ideal sound quality wise, but not much in the way of choice if you want them split.
Unless anything has changed recently, eac3to should be able to do what you want.

You could just demux the audio tracks. There is no transcoding is required (integreity is maintained) and you can select the AC3 file you require from whatever GUI (after renaming it of course)
Example Linkage
The trick is to demux the the Ac3 file and for me the easiest way is the method above. If you are really desperate to convert to flac the just use Foobar, Ac3 DSP and the flac Encoder plugin

I just find a powerful audio converter program which can easily convert any video/audio format to any other audio format on Windows or Mac. So it is also a professional FLAC converter which can convert FLAC to MP3, AC3, WMA, WAV, AIFF, DTS and etc on Mac or Windows in just one click.
It also applies to convert FLAC to AC3, DTS, OGG, WAV, WMA, M4A and etc
It even applies to convert AC3 to FLAC
Just google search Step-by-step Guide on How to Convert FLAC to MP3 using Windows or Mac, you will find a step by step guide
