Default Any Corsair Obsidian 650D owners here? - 06-03-2012, 07:03 | posts: 47

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying this case, really like the dual 200mm fans, the design, materials and cable management options, looks like a great case with a really high score too from all reviews.

Only problem I have with it is that I read that there's no real dust filter on the front intake 200mm fan, normally this wouldn't be a problem for most people for I live in Israel and dust is a real issue here, I probably clean the inside of my PC from dust every 2 weeks or so and that's with the dust filters I currently have in my P182 which I'm going to replace.

So I wanted to ask the 650D owners, how do you deal with the dust, does the front mesh provide at least some sort of filtering or is it completely useless?

Would love to get some tips and thoughts about this case because I'm eager to get it.

Thanks, Zach

Hey zach, the 650D is a great case and does have a dust filter on the front intake and psu intake. No filters anyway else though so you'll have to use the top and back fans as exhausts or buy more filters. I've been using the case for about 5 months and can't really fault it.

Thanks for the reply

How do I use the top and rear fans as exhausts? Are they configured as intake fans by default? And where can I get Corsair filters for them if I decide to get this case?

And I did notice that there's a filter on the front, however, it's not like Antec's P280 front filter for example, I'm curious as to how effective it is, is it good?

Thanks

I'm also thinking about getting the P280, it also has the great Cable Management features that the 650D has and includes 3 120mm fans with a fan controller, but it has better dust filtering than the 650D, plus it's much cheaper... What do you guys think?

I’ve been using the 650D for awhile now and have been more than satisfied with its filters and ability to keep the dust out.

I’m a fanatic when it comes to dust and do a quick clean weekly, takes about two minutes to remove and vacuum the filters and a few squirts of compressed air... never dust in the computer or on any of my gear or desk.

My fan setup is basic, factory front intake, rear as exhaust, H100 on top in push\exhaust. Personally, I would buy this case again and highly recommend it; wouldn’t consider taking the P280 over the 650D.

I'm thinking the same! Thanks for the input.

2 more questions I have from what I've read on Vortez:

1. The PSU is mounted directly on the case metal which can cause scratches, I have a brand new X-650 gold in my case which I'd like to preserve in mint condition, is there any material I can place underneath the PSU to prevent scratching in case the PSU vibrates on the exposed metal?

2. I kinda dislike the fact that the USB 3.0 cables lead out to the IO Panel instead of connecting directly to the motherboard with a USB 3.0 header, is there an adapter I can purchase to convert the USB plugs to a MB header? My Motherboard is the new MSI Z77A-GD65 and it has a standard USB 3.0 10 pin header, so I'll need an adapter that suits it.

Thanks!

I’m the same when it comes to keeping things scratch free and in mint condition; I have the AX850 mounted (resting) on the metal bottom and there’s no chance of it being marked up, once you secure it in place... it’s not moving anywhere.

There are adapters you can purchase that will let you do internal case-to-mb connections like you’re looking for.

Thanks, already found the adapter I'm looking for, and I'll take your word on the PSU.

Looks like this is a solid buy, off to purchase. Thanks a lot clawhamer and Bentz for your replies

Youll be happy with the case. Its high quality and very roomy. Dust filters are good and cable management is good.

If you are thinking of upgrading the front 200 mm fans and still want to make use of the HDD tower situated next to the fan, ensure that the fan has a 20 mm thickness. Cooler Master Mega Flow 200 mm for instance is 30 mm and will conflict with the HDD tower.

Just saying, cause I made that mistake... Then purchased a Ximatek XLF-F2004, which is 20 mm thick.

Absolutely no regrets on the purchase of this case, its awesome!
