Unhappy Android-Wifi connection issue.. - 05-31-2012, 17:41 | posts: 3

Hello all! I've been trying to fix an annoying problem that I'm facing but not getting anywhere so hope I can get some guidance here. Here goes:

I currently have a TP-link Wireless N Router (model TL-WR740N) connected to a PPPoE network from the ISP. The internet works great on my laptop but I have an issue with the android phones I try to connect (tried S2 and Desire).

The phone has problem opening some Apps like Facebook and Youtube (the app starts but is stuck on the initial loading wheel). Apps like Rage reader and Google Play fail to load the images. Furthermore weather apps cannot synch with the server with regards to my location. Accessing facebook & youtube by a web browser also has problems where it just shows the text without images in a strange page format and websites like Imgur just dont load and I get a 'Web page not available' error.

The problems seem to disappear when I'm using a different network so it must be my particular Wi-fi that's messed up but then again the broadband (1Mbps) works perfectly on my laptop and netbook. I have tried reducing the MTU to 3500 and giving a static private IP to my device but NOTHING. Any help will be much appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Thank you...

What firmware are you running on the TP-Link router?

I haven't really had the chance to test the stability of TP-Link's stock firmware because tbh, for my TP-Link, I quickly flashed DD-WRT on them, I know DD-WRT is very dependable and that's what I use (flashing DD-WRT on routers will void their warranty).

It's a wild guess, but change the channel of the Wifi. Seen quite a few mobile devices that don't like certain channels. (Apple devices for instance really don't seem to like channel 13)

Some devices also hate Channel Shifting.

And some also you need to use 20Hz increments instead of 40Hz.

Many of them are built for the US standard which are channels between 1 - 11. I tried setting up my wireless network in HKG to channel 12 or 13, my Macbook would disconnect but my phone (both are bought in Canada) would work with it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried changing the width from Auto to 20Hz and also tried a few different channels but alas, not joy v_v .... is there any other thing that I can tweak to solve the problem?
