I don't know then. CCC with my Acer pops up and asks which card I want to use the first time starting a graphics dependent program then it remembers it. I also have the option where I can browse for executable files and tell it whether I want to use the HD 3000 or the ATI.
So I don't understand your comment about CCC not allowing you to switch. That is the whole point of software switchable graphics. Not saying I like it but that is how it works.
Maybe something with HP is way different.
I'd post a picture of my switchable graphics CCC screen but I don't have attachment privilege.

I believe that's dynamic mode.
I switched to fixed mode so in CCC you can choose.

Our BIOS obviously handles it very differently. I have to set to dynamic mode in BIOS to even see the ATI card in Windows. My screen looks much different than yours.

I'm obviously an idiot. I keep trying to load an image here from different sites but I can't get anything to work.

ahh thanks popeye - yeah i just read his faq carefully and it says for HP users to set their bios to default prior to installing his drivers, i assume default means that switchable graphics = dynamic
a lot of HP users have reported success with his UP5 driver release, so im gonna do full hardcore clean of all drivers according to his FAQ and reinstall.
i will attempt tonight and advise =)

Update on Leshcat 12.2 UP5 drivers :
It works!!!
i clean uninstalled my old drivers as per leshcat's faq, and then reinstalled his UP5 drivers , and it works 100% stable on my HP DV6 with 6770m/Intel HD3000.
Played bf3 for 1.5 hours without any crashes at all, its perfect!!
I figured out what I did wrong, when I installed his package, I forgot to tick the HP patch option. (stupid me)
After I had done a full clean, reinstalled it with that option ticked, its been perfect ever since.
For all HP users with BF3 issues / crashing, like all other users who have tried it, it works perfect!!

Good day everybody.
This is my first post, and I'm not a native english speaker, so forgive me in advance for any mistake-mistype-misanything.
So, as you can see from my profile I have an Hp dv7-6189sl equipped with an i-5 processor and a radeon HD 6770m GPU. Lately (well, during the past TWO WEEKS!) I've struggled as an idiot in the vane attempt to make SKYRIM work on my machine, with scarce success. I know I can't aim at ultra-performances, but achieving an average of 25 fps with mid resolution and ALL the possible tweaks made me suspect that the fault is of the outdated (I'd rather say PREISTORIC!) gpu drivers provided by HP. After days of hopeless desperation, i found this topic. LOOKS like there's solution for my outdated drivers, but I can't understand exactly... Can you please poiint me to this so called "leshcat's driver" and the readme? I have completely uninstalled all ATI drivers from my laptop in an act of despair, so I should be clean nd ready for the updated ones... can anybody better point me to the right file and installation procedure?
Thanks in advance, you are my last hope!!

This is his site: http://drivers.leshcatlabs.org/
It is not always online. For me it is usually late afternoon (my time) that I can access it.
The instructions are available by the 'Manual' button at the very top of the page.

You're welcome. I forgot to add that you should avoid the 12.4 set. Go with the 12.2 UP2 or 12.3 UP5.
The 12.2's have a bit higher idle temp while the 12.3's suffer from sticky clock problem. Also the only Intel driver that works right on wake from sleep is the 2559. The others result in black screen on wake up.

So I'me back with a quick report.
I've donloaded and installed the last of the drivers listed in Leshcat's download page, namely (according to the executable) the 12.3 UP2 Unifil. I'll eagerly wait for a stable version of the 12.4, as it seems to introduce graphic fixes for Skyrim.
ANYWAY, I've followed the suggested procedure and all seems to have gone all right, EXCEPT for a passage. While waiting for YAD's cleaner to remove my old drivers, the monitor SWITCHED OFF. I think because the application had removed the drivers. I was forced to force-switch off the laptop, but above rebooting it the procedure seemed to resume just fine.
So basicaly yes, I have installed the new drivers and they seem to work just fine, but (could be my impression) the whole machine seem to heat up MUCH more and faster. I'll have to test and tweak in order to certify any performance improvement, tho.
So on a side note, can anybody suggest me a way to test my GPU and CPU temperature, and give me some reference values? I don't know, the laptopt seems to heat up too much, even without intensive use. I fear there's something wrong, but I know NOTHING of temperature checking and (if possible and, of course, If the temperature makes it possible!) overclocking.
PS @xacid0 I have long switched to fixed mode cause the dinamic one wasn't working (again thanks, HP -.-) so I don't think I need to specifically set TESV.exe to use the high performance GPU... am I wrong?

Personally, I like to open GPU-Z and GPU Caps View side-by-side. Caps Viewer has a nice test feature built in. You can run the more stressful tests (top selections mostly) and doesn't have to be full screen, the 600x600 works. Then you are able to watch the test along with FPS (Caps Viewer) and monitor you temps (GPU-Z) at the same time.
My way of doing it, many other ways.
I can't really speak to your reference temps as I have Acer. They all cool differently.

Ok, so I've monitored the GPU temperature for a while using MSI afterburner. My gpu heats-up to around 55-56 celsius degrees while IDLE, and easily reaches the lower 6ties just by watching a video... uhmm... I feel it's too much... maybe I should reverto to catalyst 12.2..... or DEASSEMBLE my laptop and change refrigerating paste... lol
EDIT Skyrim crashes on startup now ._.

12.3 suffered from sticky 3d clock problem for HD6770M so u'll get higher idle temp. Your max temp probably the same as before.
From what i experienced, 12.2 UP5 is the best driver so far.
Regarding Skyrim, check if u had Application Profile installed. If yes, remove them and reboot.

Thanks again for the answer. I have installed the 12.2 UP5 version and AT LEAST the game is running... and I also seem to have a bit of improvement in fps (maybe 4 or 5 on average).
But the temperature of my GPU still worries me. It sits around 50 degrees while idle and quicly jumps toward the high 70's after a few minutes of playing....
Is that normal in your opinion? Can you provide me with a king of temperature reference? I confess I have never cared while using the official hp drivers, but perhaps the temperatures were already that high...

Well, you can read through this thread. Seems everyone has their own opinion. Looks like the 70's is definitely OK though.

the question is, is there room for the fan to go faster than it's at
if it's not full speed & 70 degrees, that should be ok since if it gets hotter, the fan will speed up some more
same goes for desktops

THAT is a crucial point -.- I have noticed Hp coolsens SUCKS. I can just choose to let the fan run at whole speed full time (coolest mode), or make it start running after cpu hits a CERTAIN temperature (not sure which one, anyway optimize performance mode). In both cases coolsense limits the cpu power and AFFECTS performance-.- am I wrong?? I think it's a mental system, as I have no way to let the cpu run at full power and cool it at full fan speed from the very start -.- And the moment coolsens limits the cpu I notice it by a SUDDEN and CONSISTANT fps drop during gaming!
I wanted to try and uninstall coolsense, but I've read that uninstalling it just sticks the computer to the last mode selected (coolsense just switches some bios parameters, I have read)...
SO YES, how can I GET RID of coolsense-nonsense and instead set fan and cpu at top power and speed ? -.-

Best driver you guys have found? -

SO what exactly is the best driver you guys have found for the 6770m? Currently I'm running it on fixed and on 12.1 Beta driver. I was on the newest 12.4 but for some reason every game started acting a lot worse than ever before.
What I don't get is why Battlefield 3 cuts out after like 15 minutes and Skyrim does basically the same thing. But demanding games like Crysis can run for hours. What you guys think of this?

stick to 12.1 if you're happy with your games i guess, or try 12.6b (maybe june4 leak could be a bit better than official?)
