How to find a program that causes short system freeze

Anyone can tell me how to locate a program that causes a 100% CPU spike on core 1 that causes a short system freeze. Have already reinstalled windows and all programms, but freezes still happen now and then not regularly each freeze has a duration of 1-2 secs.

Think of what you're doing when these freezes happen. Sometimes web browsers can cause this like Opera. Also, look at the task manager and keep an eye on programs that use alot of memory. Certain scheduled system tasks can cause this too. All those suggestions are from my own experience with freezing or noticeable lag.

You could try LatencyMon to monitor which driver could cause that issue

Event Viewer. If there is a system freeze caused by any program it will show up in EV under Custom Views > Administrative Events.

beware, it can be a faulty hard disk

under administrative events I only have tons of IPv6 Errors.

like this: The ICS_IPV6 failed to configure IPv6 stack.

Testing my HDD's now if any are faulty.

check you hard disk drives.
test them bc what you describe (plus you've reinstalled Windows) can be a faulty hard drive.

Noticed today that when the 100% spike on Core 1 appears the the graphic card usage also spikes at the same time. Can a broken HDD also cause this?

One hard drive failed the drive test so I replaced it with a new one.
Hope this fixes the lag spikes.

Still getting these cpu spikes seems it wasn't HDD which caused this.

I had a 50% CPU problem on Win 7 on my spare rig the other day, every time I booted it was straight up to 50% permanent

Tracked it down to SVCHOST process, so used Process Explorer to find out which service was causing it and it was DNS Client

Disabled that service and it went back to normal

Use Process Explorer to see which process or service is causing the spike, once you know what it is, Google the problem and the name of the process and see if anyone found a fix

The DNS Client service can be disabled without any problems in my case

Noticed some weird spikes on svchost.exe which didn't cause system freezes on windows performance monitor. DNS Client service could be the problem have turned it off now will report back if its finally gone. Problem is the freezes don't happen every day and also not at the same time as on the day before.

Try this. Open your network and sharing applet in CP, click on local area connection > properties > uncheck IPv6, and see how it goes from there.

It seems I found the program responsible. Had to delete the config file of it and now it seems to have stopped with the freezing.
