Given most things use less than 4 threads, you'd probably be better with the 4100 and OC the S*** out of it.

none of the cpu`s you named will be any better than what you currently have. you would have to switch to intel for better performance or just keep what you have for now and overclock it

You don't need Intel in order to have good gaming performance. Current AMD CPUs still do quite fine in games as many games aren't CPU bound. To be honest, I think the OP would be better off just keeping the CPU he has and just overclock that sucker.

I never said they did not give decent performance, what I did say the cpu`s listed in the OP would not be any better than he currently has, I also gave the option to keep what he has and oc it. if you want better performance intel is the only option at this time

so its probably the most cost effuicient to just pop another cpu in your current rig
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103935
buy a decent cooler like the hyper 212+ and oc it

I back this call.

EDIT: You could probably save $10 by getting the Phenom II 975 BE instead, it's 100 MHz less stock but tbh, you won't see much difference as the 975BE can clock as well as the Phenom II 980 BE:

Yeah true but I'm just saying if a 965 overclocks the same as a 980 then may as well get the cheapest imo..

Ofc no two chips will OC exactly the same but I'm sure you know what I mean...

Thanks everyone trust me ive looked at all those options however as im in Australia both Newegg & Amazon cant get any phenom's too me & they are more or less an extinct product here unless you can find a second hand one.

Alternatively i have found a Phenom II x2 545 & a Phenom II x4 945 on ebay
if they were paired with a 60g ssd & a 6770 would that have enough grunt to run my wifes Photoshop PC that way i can keep the 955

Well that 945 has a locked multi so the only way to OC it is via the FSB which is kind of a pain...prob be OK I tho the clocks are a little low, but better than the X2 for Photoshop as it's a quadcore...

I'll have a look and see what I can find...have you tried TradeMe?

Those prices are a bit high, but acceptable given your location.

Hmm I just looked on TradeMe and there's a new 965 going for $150 no reserve and a 955 for $200 buy now so I guess $165 is OK. Thought they'd be cheaper tho.

I just saw a 1090T go for $160 the other day so there are some good bargains to be had.

Too bad you don't have a TradeMe account...
