Yeah in about 1wk.
Finishing-off some case mods etc.
I'm demanding my money back if it doesn't work.
Don't care that I bought the gear over 1yr ago.
Man I'll be pissed!

This is what is says on the box of the sold separately H6 I bought:
15G000235400 GIFT BOX FOR XONAR HDAV H6 V1.0
Serial no: 9AYAAC003512
Part no: 90-YAA0A0-0AAN00Z
XONAR_HDAV_H6/A
There's also UPC, EAN, & Check no's, no idea what they are.
Picture of the card has vertical pins, but card actually has horizontal pins.
The one you bought separately, does it's box have similar characteristics?
Does the card itself have horizontal pins?

This is some basic stuff... but thanks for your participation,
The problem was a faulty H6 card, probably something wrong with the logic on H6 board (bought other H6 and problem solved now 5.1 works as a dream).

In Windows 7 you have to enter the Playback devices control panel and set the speaker count. You right click speakers under playback devices and select "configure speakers". Once you gone through the wizard and set it to 7.1 then you can enter the Asus control panel and set it to 7.1 !!!

*bump* 3mth & 11-day old post.
@Rob/anyone who bought the H6 separately (i.e. not part of the HDAV kit). Can you please advise if the same is true for you?
Thank-you.

Here is the one I had. The H6 is meant for use with the HDAV 1.3 and the Essence ST.
Have a look at this review...LINK

xonar essence ST and H6 combo -
05-27-2012, 00:21
I have ST and H6 combination. OS is Windows 7.
I have few questions and would appreciate if someone could help. Sorry if questions sounds a bit amateurish.... but my computer knowledge is fairly low.
1 -
When adding H6 card and correctly connecting to AV receiver, I had sub testing signal coming out on centre speaker and centre testing signal was coming out on subwoofer. Only when I use Speaker Swap option in the Main panel testing was correct. Is that correct? I am not really sure why would you have option to swap speakers.... sub should send the signal to sub and centre to centre, shouldn't it? Anyway, this may lead into the problem number 2.
2 -
I noticed that when I had only ST I could use DSP mode while FlexBass was off, an while doing so I has subwoofer working.
Once I added H6, I can only have subwoofer working if I have FlexBass on. As soon I click on any option in DSP, FlexBass goes off and I loose subwoofer. Is that normal that you cannot use DSP mode if you have H6 connected to ST? Or do I have to do something on the card and/or windows?
3 -
I have 5.1 speakers. Am I supposed to choose 6 channels in Audio Channel option? I do not think there is any difference if I choose 8 channels, where if I choose below 6 channels the sound goes a bit quieter.
4 -
I understand that it is the best to have sample rate set at 192 Khz as the card will automatically set the sample rate to match the source. Is that correct?
Thanks

You just have the cables backwards for the center and subwoofer, it happens which is why they give you the option to reverse the two signals. If it is working don't worry about it.

Hmm, don't remember anything about that. However, I know the cards DSP will only work with lower sampling rates like 44.1 and 48K.

Yes, choose 6 channels as those are the channels coming INTO the card. Which is why if you set it lower the sound goes quieter because you are removing channels.

The card will resample everything to 192Khz unless you are using ASIO or other bitperfect output plugins for a player and in that case the bit rate follows what you are playing.
Hope that helps.
