I was kind of in the same boat as you. My 8800GT failed and I replaced it with a Sapphire OC 7850 card. It was great. I have more or less the same specs. E8400 @ 3.6 GHz, motherboard running at PCIe 16x 1.1 and 4 GB DDR2 RAM.

No problems so far.

I am not much of a benchmarker. But all the games that I had trouble running maxed out on the 8800GT were running just fine on my new card. Serious Sam 3 was struggling to run, now it runs at 80 - 100 FPS (according to the onscreen FPS counter) with everything on ultra. I don't have Skyrim or BF3, so I can't tell about their performance.

Please note that I game at 1440x900

When i bought my hd 7850 i had a i3 2100 and there was little problem at 1080p. Now with the 2500k it really shines. I recommend a quad-core like the i5 2300 to fully extract the potential.

Isn't the psu a bit weak though especially if it's a cheap one?

pcie 1.1 16x is enough but you will loose some performance, maybe up to 5%.

Honestly: if you want a hd 7850 you will need a better psu and a better cpu.

The lower the resolution the higher the cpu will work and the less your gpu will work.

At that resolution the best is to have a good cpu and a decent gpu. For 1366x768 i would recommend a HD 6870 or something similar but since you want 60 fps...hey, with a hd 7850 you will have them 60fps sure and you can latter buy for example a 1080p monitor and then the hd 7850 will be crucial.

But since your cpu is still decent and your gpu is very weak, my advice is buy the hd 7850 and as soon as possible a better cpu.

Don´t forget that your current PSU will not run a hd 7850, at least properly.

Pentium Dual-Core, E5800....No....L2 Cache=2MB...Even a 65 nm E6850(Conroe)=Better performance...You have a Really cut down version of Wolfdale core......Sad but True....

mate you would need a new platform, ie sandy bridge/ivy bridge dual core at a minimum for 60fps at that res and a lesser gpu like the 6870.

man! it can't be ... my cpu is crappy BUT it is not than bad!! how it is possible it can't do even 60 fps at max!!! i don't want crazy fps like 100~180 i just don't want to drop form 60fps at my 19" monitor any way if you have any idea that are the games i want to play @MAX:-
Crysis 2
dirt 3 ... dirt showdown
metro 2033
lost planet 2
re opration raccoon city
i want to upgrade cuz all those games run like crap on my gt430 even @lowest settings ,i know my cpu is also like crap but i just want to see that smooooth 60fps @max sittings
you see all the replys told me that my cpu is crappy and i know that , what i want is an idea of the preformance i woud get ... i think i made my point... and thanks for the replys...

But dude the cpu is also very important in gaming, and not just the cores but the performance per clock. Even a sandybridge dual core would be a substantial upgrade. A i3 2120@3.3ghz for example would give you a big boost.

Also you´re underestimating the power needed for current games to run at constant 60fps at full settings. Go look some gpu reviews and notice the big boys sweeating.

ok ... ok ...i understand ... but how much preformance i would lose if i went running the hd 7850 + e5800@3.6ghz ? and of course +5% from that pci-e port??? i know its not good combination so i decided to upgrade later
how much fps do you guys give for each game i mentioned to run on this combination??????

Ok ok, considering an upgrade from your current gpu to a hd 7850 the impact on fps will be huge. Still, depending on the cpu resorces that a game require and the bottleneck from your cpu, you may not get 60fps. But yeah your fps, depending on the game, will increase greatly. I have no way to tell exactly how much.

But take into considerations the previous sugestions.
