Default Deus EX - Human Revolution + HD 7970, Lags - 05-17-2012, 22:44 | posts: 122

Just got this game, and i experience some bad stuttering and lag.. Moving around and entering a new area or a new room make my fps drop from 120 to 80-90 and then up again for no reason, no action going on, just walking around.. sometimes it can drop as far as 60fps and up again, making it a really laggy experience..

The game is updated via steam, and i use the latest 8.97 driver..

Any solution?

The game has had stuttering problems on pc since day 1 when it came out last year.. they used to be HORRENDOUS unpatched, they are some what better after a couple patches, but are still there. Its like a combination of new zone/area steaming/shader compilation that causes it..mainly the fact it was a console port.

About the only thing u can do is make sure u have vsync and triplebuffering on.

Yes, using a 120Hz monitor..

Have vsync and triple buffering on..

It seems like a really great game with decent graphic, but the lag and stuttering is horrible..

BF3 is silky smooth compared to this game, and i tough that game was badly optimized.

I played through the game a few months ago. Using three HD 7970s @ 1050/1600 and a DoubleSight DS-307W @ 2560x1600. It played very smooth and didn't drop below 60 fps once.

well, i would just cap to 60fps, still with vsync on, this way it should look smooth enough without the constantly varying framerates that dont align to your refresh

This game runs smooth for me. (steam latest version + 12.5beta drivers, w7 x64 sp1, DX11 mode with all settings to max, also I have set my CCC setting to high quality without any optimisations etc.).
Hope this helps...

Well, it can run smooth over a long period of time if im on the same "area/level", but when im entering a new room, or get around a corner or something, the fps drop significantly, and then up again.

I know 120hz monitors are cool and all, but I find them very unstable FPS wise. I still prefer 60hz Vsync, and have no issue with this personally.

I don't like FPS fluctuating too much, and if I can keep a steady 60FPS it honestly makes everything much smoother for me, and it just feels right.

That said, maybe you should try to Vsync to 60hz for Deus Ex: HR.

Well, if its unstable, its not the monitors fault, its the hardware who cant push 120fps, or driver/game issues. that being said, two 7970 oc to 1125/1575 and a 3930k should be plenty to play this game, but i still get this large fps drops, and im not alone, this game seems to have issues regarding this, but some people have fixed it, and some not.. Damn shame its like this, its a great game..

Its somehow OK inside, but outside its a real pain. I'm now at the Shang Hai level, and damn its laggy when i walk around..

Apparently you did not understand what I was implying. By the monitor being unstable, I mean the sudden dips in FPS can be due to many reasons. Research 120hz on LED monitors, and you will see what I mean.

But anyway, it seems the game might not get along with 120hz.

it will be many years for today's games to perfectly run 120fps minimum, that's quite a lot of processing for fairly nice gfx+physics+AI per 8.3 miliseconds (especially when considering the target console design is 33ms, 30fps)

What's your in game settings? I had the same problem, but disabling SSAO fixed the stuttering for me.

FXAA high, 16X Anisotropic, everything else maxed.. i'll try turning off SSAO and see if that helps.

it does the same thing on console, engine is broken. Its not as noticeable with a gamepad though. I also noticed its alot smoother on nvidia cards, so if AMD decided to update the driver to make it better...

An odd thing that I found about this game is that for some reason on ATI cards it seems to be pretty sensitive to the DWM service. If you stop the DWM service by going to start > run and then entering "net stop uxsms" it may make the framerate a bit better it seemed to for me anyway. When you're done playing you can restart DWM by entering "net start uxsms"

indeed

Quote:
-We have made further changes to reduce stuttering in the game.
-Improvements to background streaming of resources. (on DX11 only)
-Workarounds have been added for issues that can happen with Windows asynchronous file IO.
-We have improved parallelism with the graphics driver on dual-core machines. (should also benefit machines with more cores)
