Damn, now this is what I call progress. Ironically, I would have expected either Cisco (either as themselves or their Scientific Atlanta brand), Motorola or Technicolor (formerly Thomson or RCA) to come out with this. Intel isn't really known for making DOCSIS modems...

I didn't know this either but they're apparently on a consortium for the DOCSIS technology. I guess they did Thunderbolt (with Apple) also so it's only a natural progression. This would be handy for us Aussies that are waiting for fibre from the government which is taking another 2 years at least

The Motrola SB6120 was out for quite a while before it was discontinued last summer. The SB6121 is what Motorola is using now for the DOCSIS 3.0 modem. According to them, it's more "future proof".

Ya, I know Motorola makes DOCSIS 3.0 modems, it's been out for a long while lol. I meant making 1 gbps DOCSIS 3.0 modems, that's something new lol. DOCSIS 3.0 by itself have been out for a few years now. My house is equipped with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem too lol.

Yah Docsis 3.0 has been around, but I haven't seen any that can bond that many channels. My Motorola modem can only do 4 bonded channels.

That's a limitation that Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 modems have. Cisco and Technicolor uses 8 bonded downstream channels in their DOCSIS 3.0 modems if your ISP supports that configuration.

Here's a screenshot from my Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway that my ISP supplied me:

Too bad none of my local providers support DOCSIS 3.0 at all..... They're all stuck on DOCSIS 2.0 and IPv4....

Well, they may have to switch on IPv6 soon as IPv6's official launch day is in July. My ISP is still stuck on IPv4, but will have to move to IPv6 during launch day.

Smaller ISPs have already started preparing for the transition for months now.

I have FiOS through Verizon...which is one of the larger companies.. Last I spoke with reps from Cox Comm (my former ISP) they had no intention of moving to DOCSIS 3.0, but hopefully that's changed. I doubt it though as there's been rumors going around for several years now that Cox Comm is trying to get bought out.
