Default Upgrade to GTX 460 SLI - 05-18-2012, 17:14 | posts: 147

I currently have my PC with one GTX 460 attached to a HDTV (1360x768). It runs almost everything in maximum settings. However now I am planning to upgrade my TV to a full HD resolution and at the same time add another GTX 460 in SLI mode. Do you guys think its worth the upgrade or do I have to buy a newer generation graphic card? I am happy if the most demanding game maintains anything above 30FPS.

Don't do it. You'll be needing more than 1GB of vram for 1080p. Especially if you want longevity.

Sell your 460 and buy a 670.

I sold my gtx480 and put the rest of the money towards one.

Had to go a few days without my PC. But god dammit it was worth it.

if 30 fps is your minimum, than yes a another 460 should be good for you. might need to lower some texture settings because of the 1GB of vram. for newer games.

Selling my GTX 460 is not an option, there is barely any market for graphic cards here.

If I buy the 670 willl my current system configuration (<<<<) cause a bottleneck?

and can I use the GTX 460 on the second PCI slot for Physx processing.

You won't experience any bottlenecking with your CPU as long as you overclock it.

You will experience more bottlenecking with 2 GPUs than you would a single gtx670.

Dedicated physx cards are always finicky. I think you'd get better performance running them in SLI than having one dedicated to physx.

Also depending on your motherboard you may not even be able to do SLI.

I know I can't on my 1156 board.

I just saw the price of the 670 and its kinda expensive.

And yes my motherboard " Asus P7P55D-E PRO" support SLI and Crossfire and has a GPU bridge cable in the box. Specs: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...specifications
