Yeah, it's a really lame joke.
Specially since Devolver and Croteam said a few weeks ago that they would announced DLC news for Sam3 in the coming weeks.
And Croteam have never jumped on the "April Fools" bandwagon in the past.

This game needs a engine rewrite, I was very disappointed when i saw what's going on. Its mostly single threaded game with few multi core bits here and there..
I checked via logitech G15 lcd and when fps drops occur (30-35fps) gpu usage drops to 50-60%, but the funny thing is cpu usage stays the same no matter what (1 core 80%, other 3 20-30%) >_<
This new patch before DLC didnt do anything, even though they mentioned improved multi core support, yeah sure
I hope next patch does a better job.

even if i turn it on low it stutters like crazy. i tried it with a single 480 and 480 sli, and 460 sli. runs like poo. one 480 and i can barely get 40-60 fps. 460 sli it drops below 60 fps but yet gpu usage doesn't go up, it stays at 60-70 % a lot of the time. i have given up. it's unplayabl;e for me.
my computer's no souch it should run this DX9 game a lot better imo.

As we informed you a couple of days ago, Croteam and Devolver would announce this week their DLC plans for Serious Sam HD. And we are happy to inform you today that the first DLC pack for Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter will be called Legend of the Beast. Legend of the Beast DLC will hit the Internet on May 15th in which Sam will track down the mysterious ram-god of The Great Obelisk in an all-new chapter of the legendary series.
Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter – Legend of the Beast DLC will cost a paltry US$4.99 and will feature three New Campaign Missions, three New Brutal Survival Mode Maps and three New Chaotic Versus Mode Maps.
In addition to the new content, Croteam and Devolver Digital will be making all Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter’s versus and survivor multiplayer modes free-to-play via Steam and available to download at no charge permanently starting May 15th. These free modes include Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Instant Kill, Last Man Standing, My Burden, Survival and Team Survival.

I don't know why you are having so many issues. It runs perfectly fine for me.
I don't know if they fixed it because I haven't played in a while but what worked for me is to set both the CPU and GPU performance to custom and then from the custom menu set everything to max.

If low 35-40fps drops is fine for you then ok. Its not for me and i bet Burnt_Ram would agree.
75fps on average (using 75fps cap) then boom sudden 35-40fps drops kills the mood really quickly.. I bet that's why its so empty online

Best single GPU card to date being the best single CPU card to date for a game... DERP
Did not expect that :p
Parallax mapping is still the nr1 gfx thing that sticks out for me in this game. Never seen it done so good as in these specific floor tiles:

It even supports the more advanced relief mapping technique if you switch to it via editing the config file though this will hit performance a bit, still I manage ~30 - 40 FPS with the current adjustments which is way higher than I expected.
(I mentioned it earlier but the Ultra presets are not the highest possible settings, for that you need to customize things a bit and also edit the config file.)

I don't see what all the fuss is about this game's graphics. Overall they're very ordinary IMO, even on Ultra, and only occassionally do they impress, such as the floor in the screenshot above.
The shadow draw distance is especially poor for a 21st century game and looks like the settings where taken from the console build (I understand an Xbox 360 version is imminent) as I can see them popping into view close by as I move around with a really obvious cut-off distance. Reminds me of Assassin's Creed II actually. Most of the textures are poor as well.
But graphics do not a good game maketh anyway and that's where Serious Sam 3 comes totally unstuck for me. It simply is not as enjoyable as previous instalments IMO. It's not terrible, just terribly average.

The new 301.xx beta drivers killed this game's performance for me.
Haven't played it in a while, installed the beta's last night, fired it up and blah, 28 frames no matter what. Too tired to reinstall the old ones. Every other game ran fine with the new betas, crysis 2, bf3, alan wake, etc.
But the one f&*^%ing game I wanted to play...lol...
I'll buy the DLC. I gotta support croteam.

The game has had two or three patches in recent weeks, SerotoNiN, so it may be those rather than the drivers which have killed the performance.

It's had four patches within the past two weeks. The majority of them small, though a couple did offer some longer lists of changes.
Performance for me in the game has actually increased with the patches.

I think it's the drivers, I'll reinstall the old drivers tonight and see.
All other games work fine, so it's hard to figure out if its a patch from croteam doing this or the drivers, as I updated both last night. Ugh!
Gotta love PC gaming =) Actually sh*t like this makes it fun.

I think the recent patches have mostly focused on the OpenGL and newly added MacOS functionality but there could be hidden fixes, I usually check the config file between updates as they version number the different Cvars and there's normally one or two updates for each time they've patched the game.
(Nothing major, a while back a over-the-shoulder based third person camera mode was added for example - part of the in-game options also if I remember correctly - and two OpenGL commands were altered as a recent fix to a Mac related issue.)
(I've no idea what it's used for but there's also a software based render mode, audio also has four different API's being - software, direct sound, OpenAL and XAct2 - with XAct2 / DirectX being the default - I guess it's OpenAL on Mac.)
EDIT: Though the game is already pretty demanding, AA can really affect framerate if you enable the extras for shadows and it also uses a FXAA variant with four presets from Low to Ultra plus the game supports upscaling the resolution as a form of SSAA option but I've never been able to use it for long due to how demanding that is.
(Default "2x" value sets the render to 1.5 - 1.0 being normal - with 4x setting it to 2.0)

Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile Expansion coming to the PC this October
Quote:
As promised, Devolver revealed some new information about the upcoming expansion of Serious Sam 3. This expansion will be called ‘Jewel of the Nile’ and is slated for release this October on the PC. The explosive new expansion will contain three new campaign missions set within the story of Serious Sam 3: BFE and follow Sam “Serious” Stone as he tracks down a powerful artifact on an ancient island to swing the tide of battle against Mental’s invading alien horde.
Davor Hunski, Chief Creative Guy at developer Croteam said:
Quote:
|
“Croteam is very excited about the reception Serious Sam 3: BFE received from our fans so we’ve worked really hard to make sure the Jewel of the Nile expansion tells more of Sam’s story and cranks up the insanity.”
|
Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile follows the legendary hero to the mysterious Temple of Isis on the island of Philae where a monstrous temple guardian lies in wait. Set in the midst of the main Serious Sam 3: BFE storyline, gamers will battle through three new campaign missions against the unrelenting hordes of Mental’s forces including the re-introduction of two familiar monstrous faces. Sam’s arsenal of awesome expands as well as the two secret weapons from the main Serious Sam 3: BFE storyline – the laser gun and sniper rifle – make their way into the spotlight in Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile.
