Default Pink lines across screen, have to restart - 04-23-2012, 03:04 | posts: 2,807 | Location: MD, CA

Using the 301. WHQL drivers and i notice i get pink lines across the street once in a blue moon with my GTX 550ti.
I don't OC, and my card is not heading up. Happens when watching youtube videos in full screen only , once in a blue moon.

Could it be drivers?

If so, i tested all of them and the only ones that doesn't do it , is the drivers that come with the card, but they suck ass and doesn't have FXAA. Is Nvidia planning to release some official 300 series drivers for all cards soon?

You can use WHQL 301.x on a 550Ti?
Why don't you just use 301.24 Beta?
Personally that driver is flawless on my 560 Ti.

modded inf file for whql 301
As for the beta drivers, they are horrible, no pink lines, but slows down my computer lol.
The 301 are working perfectly, not sure what the pink lines are about.
I WANT TO use a quadro driver, but nobody has a inf file

Slows down your computer how?
My 560 Ti is running great with it, and here I thought the 460s and 560s are the most problematic cards of all.

Sometimes i wonder was it installing EVGA tool causing those issues, because i haven't had one problem like that before since not installing the tool anymore.
And no i wasn't overclocking, just had the tool install because of display frame rate tool.

I have seen a couple 'pink screens' with the 3xx drivers.

This is, as I understand it, the new TDR.

I get this about every 3-4 days or so, at seemingly random moments. If I recall correctly, nVidia aren't even able to reproduce it yet.

Well i am not having that issue anymore, after cleaning out my computer, doing a fresh install, and not installing the evga tool. Using 301.10 drivers.

so far I have hated the 301 drivers they have caused issues for me in assasins creed to the point where it is unplayable. I would try just reverting back to 296.10 until a better more stable 300 series driver comes out.

Well i think its wise to do a fresh install of windows 7 and then install 301.10, i haven't had any issues with any game after doing that.

I don't think wise is the right word for that.
Generally, in trouble-shooting you should never have/need to re-install the whole OS for something as non-trivial as that. Mostly because it solves nothing, if you re-install every time you run into a problem you learn nothing.
But, then again, you are the same person who in the past said that you re-install something like every month.

Was that comment directed towards me?
because i hardly ever do a re- install, because i never ever really have any performance problems, so i am sure i never said i do a fresh install every month.

Fine, not every month. But hardly far from the truth. You constantly solve things by doing a re-install, especially drivers.... and certainly not "hardly ever" if anything.

That cracked me up, lmao.

On a serious note tho' I've come across this (pinky) particular problem myself when i was playing a FS video on yt, also any driver from the 300.xx series after some time like browsing, playing a video (external player) my idle gpu card (fermi arch)would go into p0 state (although after using msi AB and evga precision they both reported different speeds but both same voltage which was the p0 state voltage) and get locked into that state => resulting serious jerky animation (folder browsing) internet browsing and so on.

So the problem got solved in the end by reverting to the last WHQL driver.

I have to concur with the OP. This is happening to me too with the 301.24 as well (clean install), and it happens when I'm just browsing the internet with FF12. During gaming it doesn't happen (yet).
Also noticed my graphics card is getting fairly hot when browsing only (^ 55° Celsius). When i close FF the temps drop below 40° C.

When I was using the 300.xx series I had some TDR's (also when browsing), but the drivers use to recover from the crash.
With the 301.24 my computer locks up completely.

EDIT: This is much better now. I un-installed 301.24, rebooted, and windows installed an older version - 290.36 (probably had some drivers in my driver-cache). Temps while browsing are now around 47° C.

Question: Can someone explain what P-state is and what the codes mean (or point me to a website where this is explained)?

Thanks. R

Well i am not 100% sure why i am not getting anymore pink lines and drivers crash. At first i was getting them with the 300 series, but not anymore after installing windows 7 fresh again a while ago.

Also thing, i have 6 computer fans in my computer now, so it should help
But to be honest i still think i was getting those pink lines because i had evga tool install.

My temps are cool, but i just got the pink lines across my screen and i had to do a hard reset. I was uploading a video, listening to winamp, and using virutal dub and watching a video, and i got the pink lines.

So maybe it is the drivers. But only problem, i don't want to use any other driver but the 300 series because they have fxaa. And no i don't want to use any tools to get fxaa. I just hope nvidia releases a new official driver soon with fxaa enable.

Well I mean if the problem goes away with previous drivers, then yeah it's the drivers causing it.
As to why, who knows. Could easily be because of that combination of programs you were running as you listed, or programs like those, or one in particular, ext ext.
Earlier drivers can still enable FXAA through Nvidia Inspector.

ALERT!!
if the GF driver doesn't support OFFICIALLY older than 400/500-series then do NOT install driver!! if you have this driver "modded" installed then it may damage videocard.

I do never use any GF (not Quadro) driver modded for GTX 480 but I have always driver WHQL/beta installed.
