Default Razer Mamba 2012 recharging question to anyone who has one? - 05-02-2012, 14:04 | posts: 9,653 | Location: England

I got my Razer Mamba 2012 yesterday and have been using it in both wired initially then wireless mode for around three or four hours now. I think the mouse is terrific, by far the best I've had the pleasure of using to date even if it isn't really worth the asking price (£60 not £100 would be a fairer price IMO).

I have noticed that the wireless receiver/recharger plugs into the PC so I assumed that it would only recharge the mouse while the computer was on. I left my PC on and the mouse recharging in off mode (as per the instructions) and saw the scroll wheel light and wireless receiver/recharger base lighting glow to indicate it was recharging. The green LEDs on the side of the mouse were also cycling. So far, so good.

Before I left for work this morning I turned the mouse off and placed it on the recharger, simply because it looks nice, but expecting nothing to happen as I turned my PC off but left it on at the mains. However, the mouse scroll wheel light pulsed and the greed LEDs cycled as if the mouse was recharging (the recharger base light remained off though as you'd expect).

Question: how can the mouse be recharging if my PC is off? Is this behaviour normal? I mean the mouse is turned off at the switch underneath yet the mouse scroll wheel was lit and pulsing. In the software you can dim that light to conserve power yet my mouse, in its off state, is powering that light! Why?

I have the Razer Naga Epic and it acts the same way. Even tho the pc is off your usb ports will provide power when needed. When you put the mouse in off/wired mode it won't discharge the battery. When you place the mouse on the charger the LED will flash until the mouse is fully charged. When fully charged the LED will stop flashing and the battery will not be drained.

Thanks GetMax.

Awesome mouse. I just can't get over how smooth it feels and I thought my Sidewinder X8 was the bees-knees before I got the Razer Mamba.

So is this mouse now safe to buy after all the issues at release?

I haven't had any problems with mine so far. It seems the mouse lights only pulse on the recharging station for a short while after my PC has been turned off, likely because there is still some residual charge coming through the USB port for a short while. The mouse has been flawless for the four days I've been using it with no sign of the annoying lag that my Sidewinder X8 has even though I've been using it wirelessly with a polling rate of 1,000 MHz.

I've noticed with my mobo if I put the mouse on it before i shut the computer off it will charge after the computer shuts off. If I put it on after the computer shuts off, it will not charge. Guess my asus board has some self sensing voltage draw on it to see if a usb port should stay on.
