Before the Sandforce Hater Brigade pops in and starts flaming, there is nothing wrong with that SSD. Just make sure you update to the latest firmware when you get it.

Here's the link to the update:

I just got myself the Mushkin Chronos 120 GB SATA III SSD for $113.99 which is also a SandForce-2281 SSD, have yet to install it but I believe that the Corsair one would be a great boot drive as well.

Only thing about that drive is that it uses Asynchronous NAND memory as apposed to Synchronous NAND, so performance will be a little slower. I found this out when I was researching the Corsair F3 180GB that I bought two of. I could've gone for the GT's, but I didn't feel like spending the extra $50, as the ones I got will be better than a 7200RPM HDD by far.

Be careful with that drive. I bought the same one and it died on me twice. I'm thinking it may be cause I didn't update the firmware, still be careful.

I hear that SSDs are quite flimsy like residential routers. They either work great or you'll be marred with RMAs. Let's hope I won't have any problems.

I plan to flash the latest firmware right after I reinstall Windows. Hell, I might do it before I redo my system just to play it safe.

Basically like Internet speeds, the read is faster than write ... makes sense seeing how most people use their SSDs as boot drives. So read is favoured over write.

True, It doesn't really matter to be honest what drive you buy, as any SSD is gonna be faster than what I have now.

You can actually flash it either through Windows or through Linux, I've looked through the documentation and stuff for it.

There is one reason why I didn't say I'd boot into Linux, the Linux flashing utility was specifically tagged for Fedora Core 14. Knowing that Fedora Core is as stable as Copernicium, by using a newer or older version of Fedora Core may cause issues, let alone using a more stable distro to do the job.

Sadly, you can't flash it at a lower level, wished they had a bootable flashing utility that just loads a very basic firmware that allows you to flash the SSDs like the AMD graphics card BIOS flashers. They're bootable and contain a very simple DOS-like system that only flashes BIOS ROMs to the graphics card.

Paying $90 for a 60 gig SSD isn't really that good as it's $1.50 / GB. Don't count on getting the MIR, Corsair's rebates are processed by RebatesHQ and I've read they are not reliable.

Plus, in small random reads, Sandforce tends to fall behind the competition.

I recommend Crucial M4 128GB, it's only $125.
