Default ASUS Z77 Sabertooth worth the money? - 05-03-2012, 11:49 | posts: 724 | Location: Belgium

Is this motherboard worth the money? I am looking for a 24/7 high overclock 4.5ghz for my 2500k maybe higher if possible.

My current board is failing. I might get a Ivy upgrade later as well.

Is this motherboard ok?

im seriously thinking about getting this board with the i7 2700 and 2x680`s but what concerns me is i have read on asus.com that the boards runs either 1 pci-e 2.0 x16 or 2 x 8 but i cant find what happens with pci-e 3.0,wether just one slot is 3.0 or both slots,im suprised that such a supposed great board doesnt do pci-e 3.0 16 x 16,can someone advise me on this problem, for me this is make or break as to wether i get this board.

Considering the Z77 Sabertooth @ £180 is in same price range as my p6t v2 was when it was new but the Z77 saber has so much more packed in its seems well worth the money

It's a great board but if all you're looking for is a 2500k @4.5ghz it's money wasted. pretty much any board can do that.

I was going to get the z77 Sabertooth, but the local store had an awesome deal for a i5 3570K + P8Z77-V Deluxe combo where I got $70 off. Dropped the price of the Deluxe from $289 to $219, while the Sabertooth's price was $250. The Sabertooth seems like a good board though, only concern I would have is possible heatsink clearance with the TUF armor.

No cleareance issue with Thermalright Silver Arrow. If that cooler can mount on this board, then im pretty sure they all can without problems.

The performance difference between x16 and x8 is negligible at best, even with pci-e 2.0. With it being pci-e 3.0, I highly doubt it would even make a difference when gaming.

+1, my friend has SLi 2gb 560 ti's on 8x8 2.0 and has no issues, 3.0 8x is like 16x 2.0 i think.

Do you even know what you are talking about or are you just rambling again?

a PCIe 3.0 8x slot can handle any card out there, even a GTX 690 without losing performance. an 8x pcie3.0 slot =s a 16x PCIe 2.0 slot

Are you kidding me!! the Z77x-UD5H is only 10 bucks cheaper, also identical overclocker and performer. Also some reviewers prefer the z77x-ud5h over the sabertooth.

I got the GA-Z77X-UD5H for $172.50. In Canada, the Sabertooth Z77 costs on average $249.99.

So by getting the GA-Z77X-UD5H, I saved like $77.

Big difference between them, in my country the sabertooth is $278 and ga-z77x-ud5h is $266. But now i see how cheap is our mobo in your country. Unbelievable.

Firestorm,

How many slots does the SA cover on the z77 asus sabertooth board? I am looking for the exact same setup. I would like to get some corsair vengance ram with the heatspreaders and use them in slots 2 and 4 if I can. How many slots does the heatsink cover on the motherboard? Which way do you mount your SA? If your GSKILL ram is low profile stuff which kind did you get? I am looking for 8 x 2GB sticks of RAM.

Is there anything wrong with using DIMMS 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3 as primary?

Thanks

nothing wrong at all with 8x sli pci e 2.0 difference is like 2%. 8x sli pci e 3.0 would be even less of a differece as 8x sli pcie 3.0 = 16x pci e 2.0 lol

The cheapest Z68/Z77 board you can find will do 4.5Ghz on a 2500K.

Is it worth it? I don't think so. Its main selling point is the "thermal armor", and 99% of motherboards do just fine without it. Apart from that, the features offered are similar to boards that cost nearly $100 less. Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Asrock Z77 Extreme6, Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H for example.
