I may have been scammed on ebay, advice please.. -

I know when people say with ebay if it looks too good to be true then it is but i couldn't resist trying my luck when I saw a Dell u2711 going on ebay for £325 in used but 'grade A' condition.
Well it arrived today and apart from the shocking packaging where they had screwed the stand on the wrong way so they could post it in two medium boxes taped together but they also had sent me a Dell 2709w with quite a few scuffs on the plastic casing.
Below is the link to the auction and the email I sent him as soon as I'd realized what I'd received.

Right, my monitor turned up an hour ago but you have sent me a completely different model. Instead of a 'grade A condition' Dell U2711 you have sent me a B grade at best Dell 2709W which are completely different monitors in quality and worth. Before I seek to get a complete refund with yourselves paying the cost for shipping plus raising a complaint with ebay and paypal I will give you a chance to confirm if this is a mistake and fix this problem by collecting the unwanted Dell 2709w and redelivering a Dell U2711. I expect a prompt response to this mail or I will seek resolution to this situation through official channels.

I sent that at 18:30GMT and haven't had a response yet. Should I raise a dispute now with ebay and should I contact paypal separately? Is there any other action I should take at this stage?
There is another U2711 on ebay which is about £400 but from a much better seller with a years warranty from dell. If I can sort this out I will pick one of those up and count this a lesson learnt!

Website looks ok and they promise a good service. Contact them politely first to resolve the issue. Way to early to lodge a dispute, exhaust your communications with them first and good luck.
Their ebay feedback looks ok so hopefully its resolvable.

Give it 24hrs then raise hell! Maybe just a mix up in auction shipments. Had that happen once and seller rectified the situation with no cost to me.

To early for dispute, contact them first. If you file a dispute they may let it take the full time allowed to resolve the matter. Keep em sweet until you get your gear and then KICK OFF if needs be.

I guess your right it could all be a mix up and might be solvable. But seeing how similar in looks the u2711 is to a 2709W its possible the seller thought they could get away with it or maybe all of their 2711 stock were 2709 models and they didn't realize. in which case their going to have a lot of claims against them opened in the next few days

Those Dell Ultrasharp monitors should come with a warning stating that they are covered with a layer of crap which makes everything look dirty and pixelated. I would recommend just getting a refund if you can, I can barely tolerate mine. I've even considered switching back to my old PVA panel with super poor viewing angles, it's that bad. I can either have superior viewing angles and colours or a clear image, I get to pick my poison.
It's bad enough that I'm still contemplating removing the anti-glare coating and just exposing the polarizer. Look at it, LOOK:

Yeah, I absolutely hated that anti-glare layer on my 3007WFP. It still had glare and the coating made it look worse.
It felt like having a grain filter always enabled and several times I've contemplated ripping the damn thing off..
Eventually I ended up selling it.. Now I'm running 120Hz

If it was as simple as peeling it off I'd do it in a heartbeat, but it's not. The screen is semipermeable (wtf) and water can soak through given enough time, the glue is water soluble. Basically it requires covering it with damp paper towels on it for 5+ hours to guarantee the glue will dissolve and even then there is a chance of residue which is a disaster considering it will be near impossible to clean without damaging the polarizer.
I've researched this as thoroughly as a search engine can help me do, there is no simple solution and a replacement layer is absurdly overpriced (over $100 last I checked) and that's assuming they even ship to this end of the world.
It's not so simple as selling it in my case either, as this is the #1 monitor in my opinion for overall usage. It's input delay is 0.6MS, nothing comes anywhere close to that. Even for fighting games which rely on timings to 1 frame 0.6MS is negligible and almost no human can sense that anyway. The average which is probably closer to 16MS is not acceptable considering ~16.67MS would be 1 frame.
Sorry to go somewhat off topic OP, but I REALLY recommend staying away from anything that uses Dell's standard AG coating.

Good news. Communicating is always the best way to start, too many people jump straight into a dispute which just takes more time and effort most of the time. Glad you got it all sorted although I'm not surprised, it's not as if they wouldn't of had a leg to stand on if you had opened a dispute.

Just wanted to quickly update this thread. After sending back the unwanted montior Secure data were true to their word and sent me out a brand new u2711, at no extra cost. in fact they have given me a partial refund of £100 on the orginal £325 that I paid! (haven't quite understood why they did that but I'm not complaining)
I only mention all this as it was the sound advice I received from Gurus that led to this great outcome
Lastly I love my new monitor!

@neocyrus i know what you mean but this u2311h is MILES ahead of the crappy TN panel screen i was using before. if i sit slightly back i dont notice the coating that much. def gonna keep my eyes peeled for such a thing the next time im shopping for a monitor though.

Gesture of good will dude, they resolved the issue at your request in a timely manner and in a way that worked to your advantage, you got a new monitor over a used monitor but they still want you to consider them in the future for purchases so they threw in a little extra. They didn't have to but given just how tough the market is right now companies will do what they can to keep you good.

Glad you got it sorted but I think your original email was a little hasty and unnecessarily aggressive.
As Hallyru said - be polite and at least give them a chance to explain what was prob an honest mixup.
