How can you say they sound ok when you've never heard them .
The specs on paper rarely mean anything when it comes to the sound of a set of cans.
If they are reasonably priced I may look into a pair of these. I've always liked the sound of Senns. Although currently I'm predominantly using Beyerdynamics and Denons.

But then again... I would expect them to be cheaper than HD 800 which costs 899 € here in Finland. In theory I am interested since I want some more control to volume output and better sound is never a bad thing.

They would probably sound the best with a head amp based on the impedance rating.

Read the first impression of HD 700 thread on HeadFi, looks like the HD 700 share similar sound signature of it's bigger brother, HD 800. I'm thinking whether it will be a worthy upgrade from my HD 650

I think Sennheiser HD700 will be released in the UK in the next month or so, I'll be keen to hear them as they are just within my budget and I need some great cans for music listening at home, without disturbing the kids sleep!

I accidentaly found this article, a review about pre-production HD700 on Headfonia.
http://www.headfonia.com/the-sennheiser-hd700-journal/
Damn, looks like I'm going to get HD700 in the near future. And the thing that surprised me: iPod can drive the HD700!!! (According to the article). Need to find a good source and headphone amp then

for those who've never heard the HD800...they're not all cracked up to what everyone claims.
From a technical standpoint they're amazing but for pure sound enjoyment I was a bit disappointed. I live locally to the head-fi admin so I get to play with a lot of the toys that roll through.
If you own the HD600/HD650 they are very different and not cracked up to what most say. HD600/650 are easier to drive and have more bass impact.
I've heard the HD800 once on a proper rig and yes they did finally sound good but I still was expecting more. Other high end cans like the HiFiMAN HE-6 now that's another story. That's a headphone that blew my mind.
Anyways, cool story. I'll have to go try out the HD700 at some point.

For anybody that is interested in these, you would also require comparable gear to let these headphones shine.

"The HD700 from an Ipod’s headphone out still gives me a much better bass clarity than the HD650 on the RSA Dark Star, so it’s not even a close comparison."
Sounds promising. Honestly, the more I read about it the more it appears to be exactly what I would want. It's definitely not free, though.

I'm buying one as soon as it comes out. I went to a local store to hear the HD800's but the sound stage is too wide for the music I listen too (metal) I have 595's now that I love though. Anyway, i'm looking to upgrade so these are probably going to be my next purchase. Whenever they decide to launch.

Btw, I hear Denon are releasing new models too.
