Default The Survarium thread. Spiritual successor to stalker! - 04-26-2012, 20:58 | posts: 684

So stalker2 was officially canned, I think we all saw that coming. What we didn't see coming was that there is going to be a new game from the same devs, call Survarium. They left GSC to form their own company Vostok Games. This is going to be something like a spritual successor to stalker series. Yes there is a lot of emotion that stalker is no more but maybe this game will be good, let's give it a fair chance to develop before knocking it.

Things we know about the game so far.

Planned release date end of 2013
Free to play
MMOFPS
Large open worlds
new proprietary Vostok Engine technology
Takes place in a post apocalyptic world, and is not tied to the small area of the Chernobyl zone
There are anomalous activity and mutants

Vostok Games Developer Diary 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=Kl812VZv9VI

Survarium is a free2play MMOFPS game set in the near future. The game focuses on a mass- scale ecological catastrophe on Earth, the reasons behind vaguely known.
Impassable woods advance onto cities from every side, maddened animals and birds attack industrial complexes, military structures, warehouses and power plants. Towns are cut off from each other, there are no water supplies, no electricity, gas, communication is lost. Countries collapse, anarchy spreads throughout the world. Now force dictates who to survive. In the meantime, new species of greenery and animals purposely destroy human civilization. Strange plants and mushrooms grow through concrete and steel. Scientists all over the world haplessly try to cope with the anomaly sprawling across the Earth with terrifying speed.
The game is developed with a new proprietary Vostok Engine technology and is planned for release on PC at the end of 2013.

Thank you for making this thread! I'm a huge fan of STALKER and I was very sad to hear the news that it's finally lost to us. The newly announced game initially really ticked me off with its "free to play MMO" description. After taking a day to cool off and think it over, I'm still not in love with their idea but I certainly understand their decision. There is supposed to be a Q&A session held today where Vostok will answer questions regarding the new game and I've submitted a few myself. Hope we see at least part one of the Q&A answers today.

I still think it could be VERY interesting, it all depends how the gameplay will turn out. Ppl shouldn't diss it yet just because its no longer SP. (you know who you are)

Give it a chance i say

There is absolutely no way to get the STALKER atmosphere, other than single player.

Those Midnight strolls thru the zone are priceless, I tell you.

This is either going to be a hit or miss imo. If the whole concept of survival, factions, etc is implemented in such a way that we get a game similar to stalker but with real people, real enemies, it could be epic.

Though if they do it the wrong way it'll be a cluster**** of a fail.

The FAQ makes it sound mildly interesting, but it doesn't seem like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. anymore than Elder Scrolls Online seems like The Elder Scrolls:1-V :/

Although those screens look like the Zone they don't feel like the Zone.

Too much colour and life, a more wasted and atmospheric landscape woule be better.
Oh and a MMO....

Still sticking with my first impression, no thanks.

Maybe cause it isn't the zone? It's a different game, different setting, different story. Only thing these games have in common is post apocalypse but even that happened for different reasons.

Anyway they seem to have a surprising amount of work done already. I'm still keeping an open mind.

Looking amazing actually... I wish there was an online Stalker game - dedicated servers, freeroam and all (I know there are mods but still) and this is great news.

Now to finish off the Stalker Trilogy before it comes out... Need to find mods first.

Thy do have the same places that Stalker had.
So they have in common the same places, at least some of them.

Free hein?
Oh well why not.
