I only wear it when I am really sure that it won't get damaged or stolen. That is why I have the Seiko, which is also a nice watch:

I am currently saving for the Breitling Navitimer: http://www.breitling.com/en/models/n...tion/index.php

Here in the Netherlands it will cost me €6.500,-.

Never heard of that brand. But if I would have that money, I'd still buy the IWC.

Inherited one of these: - serviced, cleaned, changed glass and crown and then keeping it out of service. Btw, Vacheron is probably the oldest prestige watch maker with a continuous history, 257 years now.

This is why quality is so much more expensive. If you have to ask why craftsmanship costs more then you will never understand it or respect anyway and you don't deserve to have it.

Yes, but that watch which this thread is about: 18k yellow gold case with sapphire-crystal exhibition case back on a hand-stitched, brown alligator strap with an 18k yellow gold ardillon buckle.

18K gold is easy to sell for 22,2€/gram. Has to be more than one gram in that watch and if you can get whole watch for 5€ you will surely make some profit.

Wow "great" craftsmanship. Most of the job is done by robots.I could speak otherwise if it was 100 years ago.Back then the swiss watchmakers were the actual heroes. Now everything is full of **** and every single smartass wants to get the money of the stupid rich people by deluding their weak minds.Yeah actual fact.

These are all amazing watches and I can appreciate the artistic value they carry but I think just like everything else today they are built by machines. I think the true value is in old watches that are hand crafted. The amount of time and steady hands and patience to make the watches of yesterday was an incredible feat. Simply put to me today's machine built watches can not rival that.

I do not know why people are disrespecting robots.

The amount of time and dedication which goes into creating the robots carries more then enough artistic value I can tell you that.

Building controllers is bloody hard and takes for EVER. Then good thing about it is that once a robot is done it very rarely makes mistakes unlike humans.

I see expensive watches as just bourgeois displays of wealth. I dont have the other trappings of a rich lifestyle so why would I need several thousand pounds dripping off my wrist.

Some of them look nice I suppose.

The artist would argue that the minor imperfections, the slight differences everytime, is one of the things that makes art.

Well some people call the proper design of electrical circuits including controllers as an art.

As a matter of fact one of the main textbooks which covers controllers and their electronics is called the art of electronics by Horowitz and Hill.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying that, yes, the creation of the robots maybe something akin to art...But what robots product is not.

These watches are akin to masterpiece paintings, and that is why they command such a high price.

True true I agree. They are however ostentatious; for rich people sitting on heaps of cash.
