Yeah, CCC startup issue is only fixed in the 12.3 WHQLs. Weird that it's not fixed in a "12.5 beta". Thanks for the tip on custom installing the 12.3's CCC over top of this. Works like a charm.

No issues here with CCC with these drivers, mind you it was a fresh Windows install.

Don't install over previous driver. Uninstall previous driver, boot in safe mode and use "Driver Sweeper", then boot normal and use "Ccleaner" then install.
Fixed it right up for me.

never use ccc cleaner or driver cleaner.
best amd/ati uninstaller by far is ATIMANs uninstalled 6.3.1 restores your system to plain default vga then you install a fresh ever time.

^ atiman is the ONLY way to do a clean uninstall...
it leaves zero files...
if you had ghosts, something else is causing it...
and unlike driver sweeper, it leaves your install directories alone...

I think so... Seemingly at least, BF3 only with MLAA it runs even better than only with FXAA. And with 2xMSAA Adaptive, it's great.

Use atiman to remove all drivers.
Then boot safemode and run a driversweeper on top to remove the other existing files.
Then run CCleaner to fix registery.
And reboot normal again and you are ready to go!

I used that program and it broke my Windows install (on a boot-level).... CCleaner nor Driver Sweeper did anything nearly that bad :p
I forget exactly what the issue was at boot, but Windows just refused to load, and startup repair couldn't fix it. I did nothing else out of the ordinary, so I'm 95% sure it was ATIMan (since that was the only thing different I used on my PC)

As long as I'm playing BF3, I'm pretty sure we got a nice boost with these drivers. They run truly better, a little at least.
With a specific setup, I couldn't run Strike At Karkand so nice. I run only MLAA + 2MSAA. Ultra Textures, all other High and HBAO on. The card is running at 1Ghz.

I should have clarified, I meant with the 7970 and Win8. Its assumed all the older cards work fine with most drivers in Win8, however the 7970 only works with 11.12.1. Other drivers will install but you loose CCC, meaning Eyefinity is off the cards.
Sadly these drivers are the same, I tried:
- Complete 8.97 package, driver + CCC
- 8.97 driver (oddly its WDDM 1.1 not 1.2?) and 11.12.1 CCC
CCC will not open and again it looks like the 7970 will require an official update to get past 11.12.1 in Win8.

It was 100% ATIMAN issue, bcause it causes bsod on boot and non-recoverable install for AMD setups.

Same sh*t, different day. 1st card - stuck in idle mode in games, 2nd card - stuck on max mode on the desktop. That's the last time i try new drivers before going green. Rolling back to the last stable drivers 11.11c until then. The level of incompetence of AMD with all the 12.x drivers is abysmal. No, it's not my fault the drivers don't work for me and no, it's not MSI Afterburner fault. It's a clean Win 7 x64 install so these are the first drivers on the hdd and there is no MSI Afterburner installed. AMD just sucks and are unable to provide a decent driver.

Fresh windows 8 install, CCC works fine for me with xfire 7970. Try ATIman / driver sweeper on your windows 8 install. Looks like you have something left over.
