Default Clock Constantly Desynchronizes - 04-15-2012, 04:03 | posts: 18,946 | Location: Toronto, Canada

Hey guys,

I'm getting this weird issue where Windows would keep losing its synchronization. If I don't constantly manually sync it with an NTP server, it can be up to 1 hour behind. Like it slows down the time for some reason. It only happens from time to time and sometimes it's perfectly fine.

So when I went to set out why that happens, I opened a PowerShell terminal and typed the date command. I manually typed date and didn't use any of the command line shortcuts to enter the command.

This is what I found:

I have already tried replacing the CMOS battery and this issue still occurs. Is this a Windows issue or a hardware issue? Anyone else had this issue before?

EDIT: It seems Windows is having a little issue counting no? Here's a comparison screen shot between Linux and Windows on the same machine:

There must be a corrupted file somewhere if it's not happening in Linux as well.

Could always try an "Integrity check."

That doesn't disable HPET, that forces Windows to use it. You can only disable it by going to the BIOS (Which sadly most Asus boards do not allow). By default Windows uses a mix of HPET (assuming the system supports it which his should) and another timer that I forget the abbreviation of. TMISC or something similar.

Yeah RDTSC is what I was thinking of. The time stamp counter on Phenom 2's is pretty solid as far as I know so I don't think it will do much for him, but it's worth a try. Although to go back (because having HPET used to time everything isn't optimal) you have to replace "true" with "delete".

I eventually said screw it and just reinstalled Windows, it was getting clunky anyways. Right now I'm in the process of reinstalling everything lol.

Thanks anyways, it seems to be a Windows problem. So far no clock desynchronization yet.

think this happens if u try to prevent homecalls in windows, or tamper with defaults on clock sync

I tried the manual time update on mine and it advanced 4 minutes. It's set to auto synchronize, I didn't notice until reading this thread that it was running slow.
