Lightbulb Anisotropic Filtering ?? - 06-09-2003, 20:19 | posts: 130 | Location: CA

Hey i got a question for you guys, im playing the game mafia, and clives barker undying etc etc. mostly mafia. Anywaz if i set the Anisotropic Filtering to 8x would i see any performance cuts.? I dont really see any different or should i leave it off. Cuz right now i have Image Settings Quality under Qualilty, and i got Antialiasing on off, and i got anisotropic filtering on 8x. Good settings for Mafia ? its smooth game play. My resoultion is 1152x864 at 32 bit. Just wanted to know if anyone is having good performace with good image quality. Anywaz thanks take it easy .. or any suggestions .. i have GeForce 4 Ti 4600

Yes, aniso will give a performance decrease, same as any other image enhancing option..

You may not see a difference bacause Mafia generally runs like $hit and since you have a pretty fast card, chances are you're cpu limited anyway.

Overall, I play at the highest possible resolution that still allows smooth fps. If a game is still smooth at 1600x1200, then I'll start with Aniso at 2x and work up from there till I get some low fps or lag.

I play Mafia @ 1600x1200x32, no AA 2x Aniso, and it runs reasonably smooth.

I would try using Mafia with AA and AS. That's a good combination because AS makes the blurry AA image sharper again.
