Upgrade or no

Specs are in the profile. I recently droped my oc do to it was stable and i just dont want to spend the time to get stable. Nor do I want to OC anything only reason i oced this rig was cause I spent 200$ on this ram to run at 1600mhz which it did but it lost 2 gbs at the speed and no amount of messing with the bios or resitting the ram or cpu or change bios versions changed that

Now i can make i5 2500k + asus P8Z68-V + 8 gbs for roughly 250$, but would i see increase in fps and or performance (Generation 1 vs Generation 2 2.8ghz vs 3.7ghz )in the few games i play to make it worth it?

Yes i should upgrade my gpu but seeing i just got rma upgrade from the 9800gt that died for free (not sure how much a upgrade that really was ) I not to keen on that idea, tho I am interested in the what ever card replaces the 560ti. and SSD would be good to but i wanted to have Sata III board to go with it which my current board is not.

Wait for Ivy Bridge. It really isn't that far away, and a stock 920 is still easily enough for most games nowadays, especially with your GPU.

is that gona have more power then then the 2500k? I could care less about the intergrated gpu these chips have. use full if I gona rma my card again so i have a working computer but other wise pointless to me

probably 10-20% faster, overclocks better, lower temps, also 77watt TDP compared to 95watt tdp of 2500k.

I'm hoping this is just the fact they were using engineering samples and the retail versions are gonna perform much better...but check this out. tweak town overclocked the 3570k and 3770k - really hoping this isn't gunna be the retail performance otherwise i'll go for a 2500k myself. I have the cash ready and waiting for ivy, hoping it lives up to its name.

-but yet some can get to 6.6
-so there is a lot of grey area between 4.8 and 6.6.
-all ivyB leaks to date based on test that have been hardware\software crippled in some way.
-the one that gets me is the one running at 90c but the heat sink is not hot ,does not own a good cooler .or anything to read temps other than sb software ,then deems ib too hot to run and puts his sb back into the board lol. where do these idiots get these chips.

I saw that article, they pulled the i5 2500k comparison out of those charters since last night. cause when I looked last night the 3570k barely beat the 2500k and in most cases was identical

Pretty sure the mb i listed above is not ivy so maybe i buy the board and wait and see what that 3570k look like

I would not upgrade you are going to see little to no difference going from a i7 920 to a i5/7 2500/2600

Also based on everything I've seen IB is only 6-7% faster on average (clock for clock) compared to SB, with a little better efficiency and perhaps better oveclocking. The only real advantage IB has over SB is pci-e 3.0, and the onboard GPU for those wanting to use it. It's only a die shrink afterall.

So should leave my pc as is with defualt clock and go for SSD and wait another year or 2. or till the bent pins on my MB say it time to die. cause i pretty sure that is what is at the root of the vanish 2gbs problem. cause i done the bios update and settings to no avail. evga forum people seem to think it the pins might of been damaged which what at the root the problems

Just oc your 920 some if you feel it's needed. What sucks is the need for faster gpu/cpu's last 5 years or so is not required due to the majority of games ported from consoles. Personally my i7 2600k with a nv 570 should run everything fine for another 3-4 years :-)

i might wind up trying to oc it back up some but i took it off cause it was unstable and i honestly dont get ocing even with all the stuff I read. unless some one can give me sure fire 3.1-3.2ghz oc setting that dont push my ram past 1560mhz cause i lose 2 gbs most likley do to the bent pins the mb has
