Well I managed to download and try the PC demo before leaving for work and, sure enough, it looks absolutely stunning visually. However, it looks, sounds and runs absolutely identical to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions so there's no reason for me to buy it again much as I love the game. On my 1920x1200 screen there are understandably top and bottom borders to keep the 1080p 16:9 aspect ratio resolution and loading times are brief, perhaps a second quicker than the console versions, which are already quick anyway.

One thing that did annoy me though in the demo was the menus can't be navigated with the Xbox 360 controller's D-pad, only the analogue stick. Sure, it's not a big deal but I instinctively use the D-pad for menus in games so this omission jumped out at me. That aside, this is a really superb, super addictive old-school platform game and highly recommended.

I've been plaing this game a bit today, it's really great!

It's just a shame that more old school platformers aren't made to the same quality these days, or is it just my age showing?

Anyway, I really like it!

Yeah I'd actually buy a ninty again just for Mario (and Zelda) if I had money to throw away!

Still play them on my emulators though, can't beat super Mario world, it's the best! Shame the n64 era games actually look worse than the SNES these days, but it's part of the charm.

Well, if you're on the plank about a wii, they go for like £60 or so, which is nothing, games like mario galaxy 1 & 2, new super mario bros and super paper mario are old enough to not cost very much at all (minus soft hacks), definitely worth the purchase for games that do not support emulators or run far too slowly

Zelda is not a platforming game, I don't know why people often bunch it in with them.

These news are a few weeks old, but I forgot to post them here.
According to the Steam page for Rayman Origins, the Steam version is not going to use 3rd party DRM. This info was later confirmed in Rayman's official twitter account:
Quote:
What is written on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/207490/) is correct: the #Steam version of #RaymanOrigins won't contain any 3rd party #DRM.
https://twitter.com/#!/RaymanGame/st...73556901986304

Let'a hope Ubisoft isn't lying about this...

It's not using DRM or at least the retail version isn't since someone got the game sent early and uploaded it and since it's not using any copy protection it's spreading pretty fast from what I've read.

Have it pre-ordered (Gamersgate.) and it should be released in a few days, feedback seems very positive so far.

I'm getting the retail version to support the lack of any DRM, just a pity that as said the leaked one was out even quicker than usual due to there not being any DRM, not even sure if there is a release date check.

The gamersgate and other digital versions use Tages DRM though (with steam being the exception to this).

Yeah I remember now, earlier I was under the impression all digital editions used Tages via online activation, nice to see that the Steam version isn't using it.
(Maybe Steamworks instead, though Steam itself is a requirement - not a DRM as such though, more of a platform - and thus likely more than enough protection for this game.)

Well then buy the game instead of stealing it.

Just finished installing Rayman Origins, looks like Ubisoft didn't lie about the Steam version not having 3rd party DRM, no CD key, no activation, there's no signs of 3rd party DRM in the game.
