Default W3680 Safe Voltage and Temperatures - 02-10-2012, 17:47 | posts: 3,006 | Location: Not Far North Enough (England)

Hey Gurus.

Just managed to grab a new W3680 (basically an i7-980 with 6.4 GT/s QPI and ECC compatability) for a nice price. Gunna fit it in a few days to my existing rig (see left), just wandering, what are the maximum safe voltages and temperatures for the Westmere/Gultown CPUs long term when OCing?

I remember reading somewhere that they don't like voltages anywhere near as much as the 45 nm chips.

Cooling is a Noctua NH-D14 with an extra fan whacked on the back in a HAF-X.

Ta

If it was mine I would keep the temps in the low 70C range under Full Load, Max.

As for the max. VCore, if my temps are good then so is the voltage. But that's just my general opinion.

This might be quite relevant with the SB deterioration thread floating around here as well, given both are on the 32 nm process. I'm tempted not to go above 1.35 really, even though the Intel max spec is 1.375, having heard a few horror stories of degradation even below that limit.
