Default Asus K53TA Laptop Tweaking - 01-11-2012, 01:23 | posts: 948 | Location: Oregon

Just thought I would share my great experiences with my new laptop, I got it for $400 and I can actually game! Specs are whats in sig with the following clocks at default.

A6 3400m: B0 and P0 in K10stat

2.3ghz - 1.3000V
1.4ghz - 1.0375V

after some general tweaking I was able to significantly lower the voltages across the board as well as overclock to:

2.6ghz - 1.1375V
2.0ghz - 1.0000V

After a 3hour Prime95 torture test on large fft's all is great! original maximum temperature before undervolting was 74-76C from pure CPU/ with GPU maximum load. after it came out to 62-65C from pure CPU/ with GPU. To say the least I near shat my pants at what this cpu has accomplished! I've been in such disbelief I haven't stopped stress testing including all night prime95 torture test blend.

aside from the tweaking I very much enjoy the gaming benefits from my old core2duo and intel 4500m - I can actually play skyrim all highest cept distant detail sliders all in mid, with shadows on high but with an added shadow mod with much better shadows. runs at roughly 30fps, never much less cept in cities and for my casual playing its fantastic. cheers to being back

where do you find the voltages etc? cause the bios is quite limited.

Yeah the BIOS is really limited, it really has no special information. All of the overclocking as well as undervolting I did was in k10stat, a phenom II based overclocking software that allows you to modify all of the power states. for my processor there are the following states (default, before altered):

B0 2.3 ghz (only 2 of 4 cpu's can run at this at one time)
P0 1.4 ghz
P1 1.3 ghz
P2 1.2 ghz
P3 1.1 ghz
P4 1.0 ghz
P5 900 mhz
P6 800 mhz

these can all change independently for each core based on the cpu usage, I altered the B0 state to 2.6 and lowered voltage, as well as changed P0 to 2.0 and lowered the voltage. just messed around with overclocking the 6650M as well

yeah its a bummer, it seems the couple months this thing had a sale all over the web it actually did.. seems price is wayyy over what I would see a deal - still in shock they were letting them go for $399 at one point. wish it were the case still

if anyone can find a way to use just the dedicated card this laptop could do significantly better, it's not easy to do but would totally be worth it. dang asus for inflicting this upon us!
