Default Which AHCI drivers for SSD? - 07-27-2011, 16:55 | posts: 548 | Location: UK

Just curious what people use for AHCI drivers?

I've read that many just use basic MS ones and a few find intel drivers give better performance but the only thing i read about AMD's AHCI is that they are dire.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm running a Fusion chipset in a HP DM1 so its the Hudson M1 I think (not entirely sure)

AMD's SATA driver isn't really "dire" anymore, but it's still slightly inferior. I ran some tests with my SSD, and I found I got higher write speeds but lower read speeds with the AMD driver. So I went back to the Microsoft one.

For AMD motherboard, all depend the controller of your SSD, some don't give trouble, some do. better is go on the forum of the manufacturer of your SSD, or do your test.

For Intel motherboard, i specially recommend to use the Intel AHCI + rapid storage who will allow use special function of SSD.

I use AMD drivers.

The AMD drivers are a bit faster but with the MS drivers the PC start up is 3 sec. faster.

The AMD drivers are good and stabel and I have the same performance over the last 4 month.

I did you guys a favor and did some actual testing with my Vertex 2 SSD.

AMD SATA/AHCI Driver:

Here's Microsoft's standard driver:

As you can see, the AMD one still gives slightly lower performance and should be avoided.

Tested with 11.7 AHCI driver.
