I know, double post from driver forum. I just want everyone to read up on what happened.

Hm this is interesting, tried lower the voltage for my ram yesterday. My ram are running dual channel low latency kit. Recommended voltage is 2.1-2.2. I lowered them to 2.1 just to see if they were stable at lowest recommended voltage.

After that i got a couple of these ati crashes. White out, grey bars etc. Long time i saw those last time.

But when i increased voltage for my ram sticks the crashes dissapeared.

Maybe the crashes are related to how you set up ram in bios, maybe its because of the new stream technology when gpu/cpu tries to work a bottleneck occurs with shifting speed voltage on components and WHAM! scary ****ing freeze occurs.

10.2

Had a black screen this morning shortly after cold booting in a game.

So in a way it's fixed, but changing the color of my lockup screen is not a fix ATI ><

Nah my CuCore comes with the Vcore tweaked to 1.2 so its not fair.

i get 1000 core at 1.2v

On Topic, i get Grey Screen crash with Just Cause 2 but only if my mem is overclocked, set it too defaults and it never crashes.

i can runn all benchies and other games fine at 1350 mem but anything over 1200 with Just cause 2 crashes 10mins in with the demo Grey screen and then back to desktop.

I still get the damned Gray Screen Crash now with a Orange stripped crash screen. The 10.2 hotfix has not worked for me and I'm looking to RMA this card ASAP from MESH.

Well guys, if you are experiencing the grey screen crash even with catalyst 10.3 installed, I suggest you to RMA your card instead of trying to find a solution.
This might have occured because of the card defect, mostly with the memory module. So RMA your card before the warranty expires!

Took a gamble with some cash yesterday...

I replaced my Saphire 5870 that crashed with gray/black/brown/blue/whatever screen, only within 10min of starting a game with a icecold system (but happily plowed on all day, or all week if you wanted after that), by a ASUS 5870 voltage tweak Edition.

And it's fixed, I didn't wipe the system yet on purpose, so didn't change anything and didn't reinstall any drivers...

So I'd have to confirm that any kind of gray/blue/whatever screen crashes are a hardware memory problem and not software... I guess that first batch has been like 25% fauly then. That'll sure keep me from preordering the next generation card...

Too bad I can't RMA my Saphire because I used all kinds of possible fixes on it (including third party cooling). And that Saphire had the gray screen when starting game (only on cold system) since day one... Should've sent it straight back without any attempt to fix it. Nice expensive paperweight on my desk now (it is functional in 2D or in heated up systems for most games. However can not keep plowing FurMark for longer than like 10min, (the ASUS now can, and after putting my Thermalright spitfire on it with some damn nice temps also)) 62C max after half an hour of Xtreme Burning Mode FurMark, 22C Idle
