Default Motherboard Boots 3 times - 11-20-2009, 09:38 | posts: 103 | User is Offline

Hi,

Am facing a weird problem. My motherboard makes three attempts to boot then goes to the OS.

1. Attempt one:
All fans and LEDs come on for two seconds. No display to screen. Then all goes off for 2 seconds.

2. Attempt two:
All fans and LEDs come on for 6-7 seconds. No display to screen. Then all goes off for 2 seconds.

3. Attempt three:
Boots to the desktop normally.

This only happens when power is 'cut' to the PSU. Meaning, if the computer is off, but the UPS is 'on' (so there is current in the PSU), and then I power on the system, it is normal. But when I totally switch of supply, turn the UPS OFF, then the above happens.

What could be the reason for this. No issues while working/gaming. No system lock or BSOD/Crash.

Cross posted here.

But it finally does load (after the 3rd attempt), the OC'ed settings. Does not go to the fail safe default settings.

have you tried it without the ups at all?
just easier to narrow down possible causes if you start with the external stuff.
Plug the pc direct into the mains (aslong as you see this fit to do) and try it.

Sure..will try to isolate the issue. Also a CMOS battery.

Though generally asking...just a 'guestimate '...how long does a CMOS battery last...?

We get computers 5 yrs old and up that have dead batteries, but that is only the ones we have had in the shop, no doubt the life span ranges significantly more than that

Easiest thing to do is remove your OC and then see if it boots normally. If so then the OC is the cause.
