I wouldn't.

These drivers 8.661, 8.633, 8.663.1 beta X are all basically just 8.66 drivers.

When a card is added to an already established driver ATI labels it with a .1 (or .2 or .3). So the 8.663.1 beta X are really just 8.663 drivers with an extra video card now added in.

Rflair, do you fancy massaging someones special place at Ati to get us the 9.12 betas?

You have to take one for the team sometimes you know!!

I dunno. I have a feeling since these are beta that they don't bother to update the tags on the d3d, ogl and driver revision. These are newer than the 9.11 WHQL and the 9.11 WHQL have prolly been back from MS for a bit before they get released. These were actually built on 11-10 so believe they have to be newer despite what the revision show in the drivers. Maybe the betas are built from a different branching altogether. In any case I unstalled 9.11 WHQL, ran driver sweeper and installed these. They do show as 9.10 but they are super fast and smooth. Played L4d2 last night and some COD MW2 special ops, they were amazingly smooth, much smoother than 9.11 WHQL. Crysis went from 62 FPS in the spot my savegame loads to 75 even hitting 80s now (1680x1050, high, 2x AA). So there is definitely a performance increase.

If ATI were to add 5450 to these 8.663.1 drivers they would magically become 8.663.2 and a newer compile date to match. They are 8.66 derivatives nothing more.

And yes there are multiple branches of drivers, 8.67, 8.68, 8.69, 8.70 being worked on.

ATI always updates the 'tags' on the individual pieces of their drivers.

I would if I had them, at one time I had a very close connection with someone high up at AMD, they moved on. I still have access to some 'newer' drivers through someone else, but I don't want to bite the hand that feeds, saying give me more and putting them in a possibly uncomfortable position.

Edit: While the drivers from the 9.12 RC2 XP betas will not install the CCC will, if you are using Vista x64/Win 7 x64. Not that it will offer much, but there are some subtle changes to CCC.

Ok, but in terms of the driver itself. HardOCP and Legitreviews posted reviews with the new NFS beta patch calling these 9.12 beta and that was with the beta 4 set. Now we see a Beta 5 of the same revision and it's dated 11-10-2009. The 9.11 WHQL are dated 11-9 (if I recall correctly) and who knows how long those have been back from WHQL testing. I understand about the extension for the cards - my question would be what drivers are actually newer?

So in the end the Betas are newer but Ati doesn't show it with numbers?

all things works faster with betas than 9.11 official ?

You are definitely wrong here. While the 3D driver version remained the same in 8.66 branch, they definitely changed something. First they added an automatically lod adjustment for Supersampling mode and second they fixed the water issue in Tropico 3. And this is only what I found out, probably they changed even more. They do not just added a card.

9.11 are newer, being based on a different build then 9.10, so there might be a bug that crept its way into one or the other, or a bug not present in one or the other.

NFS patch is whats going to bring the performance to this game that ATI users want, drivers are going to help, but no where near as to what the patch will do.

Truly I wish ATI would just release drivers based on driver package builds, calling them 8.67, 8.682 and such rather then Catalyst x.x, just because the true nature of the driver is its build number.

Nope. I never said that from 8.66 to 8.663 there were no drivers fixes, I said from 8.663 to 8.663.1 there were no changes other then adding a new card. And I also said that all 8.66x.x drivers were based of 8.66, which they are.

Which 8.663? Isn't there only a 8.663.1?

You told:

Installed the ones from amd's site on lefty http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...n-hd-5970.aspx

Crysis/Warehead (High/Gamer no AA @ 2560 * 1600)

9.11 36.23/30.05
8.663 (9.12 beta) 41.43/37.40

Warehead much smoother.

3DMarks about the same

The 2D clocks are messed up, and editing the profiles.xml doesnt sick, but after a game they return to normal, and then the below?
