Default sr5410f Overclocking *e2160 processor* - 11-07-2009, 11:22 | posts: 12 | User is Offline

So apparently i was reading these articles on the net and i saw this one *my motherboard locks up bio's so i cant overclock anything at all*

http://www.tipidpc.com/viewtopic.php?tid=98439&page=1

It shows me about pin modding there. I have boston motherboard (ms-7525)

and the socket is lga775. If you search that article or scroll down, read this section.

And heres a yummy one for you.

1066 Core2Duo BSEL Mod
- Changing the 800Mhz to 1066Mhz Bootstrap (FSB)
- Applicable to E2xxx/E4xxx Core2Duo, Celeron 4xx (Conroe-L), Pentium D 800 FSB
- Mobo should have support for 1066 FSB

Apparently it makes my fsb go to 800mhz to 1066mhz and automatically oc my core. Can anyone give me an insight on this please? And if not tell me how i can oc my default SR5410F

These are my computer specs.

Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz
Conroe Core
1800.1 MHz Clock
800 MHz FSB
1024 KB L2 Cache
1.325 V
Step M0
Found Memory:
1536 MB DDR2
400 MHz
Cl 6-6-6-18
Found Motherboard:
MSI
Boston

I also have a 8800GT 512mb ddr2 card and my core temp idle is close to 52 and gpu 52 as well. Any helps pl0x?

Speed fan shows these values-

GPU - 53
Temp1: 53C
Temp2: 34C
Temp3: 38C
HD0: 42C
Core0: 33C
Core1: 33C

And any helps?

EDIT: my psu is 650 watts.

Well it just works fine tbh.

Not heard of any problems doing an overclock this way.

if your on stock cooling i wouldnt recommend it..and it looks like u are with idle temps of 50...being as max for that cpu should be around 64-65..so id say upgrade ur heatsink before doing anything else..

It's between 2.3-2.4 ghz the overclock will be. The stock cooler will handle it, but it's not something I would reccomend honestly because of the cooler.

How long ago did you buy the computer? You stock cooler. Is it like the normal intel cooler or a smaller one. The first few batches of E2XXX cpu's shipped witha chunky stock cooler and if that's the case, you'd be fine with it..

For that overclock you're not gonna need any further voltage to be added, so there will be very little added heat.

I ran my E2160 on the stock cooler at 3.2Ghz just fine

my pc is like almost 2 years old. Its from staples. I would still try to buy a cooler though, but has anyone else had issues overclocking that way though? Is it safe? Because thats my last resort really. I cant upgrade my motherboard. Therefore i am stuck with the thing and how did you overclock yours with the stock? I cannot see anything or anyway to overclock it except for the pin mod...

im just sayin a cooler would be nice..i understand most people can get decent overclocks on stock intel hsf...but this guy is IDLING at 52C...thats NOT normal at all..and id imagine hes probably already maxing out around 64-65C if he ran prime95 or something..so either his heatsink isnt mounted properly or his ambients are way high but something is not right with those IDLE temps.

Everything is in its place. Its probably due to my 8800GT because thats what gets hot or probably cooling. But yea i will be getting a new cooler. But anyone actually tried the pin modding. and i dont think my pc runs that hot. When i am playing borderlands at max medium-high settings after like an hour or hours the temp goes high upto 65 max.... I havent checked the pc temp at that time, but i will be sure to grab myself a cooler before i overclock it. But anyone actually tried the pin mod though?

The pin mod does work, it's mostly for dell and oem systems with limited bios options. That is your last resort. You should be able to get a windscreen repair pen (conductive ink) from halfords. 3Ghz should give you a pretty decent boost in both windows and games, if I was you I'd do the pinmod and check your temps, if the go over 70'C, then get better cooling

So, you are suggesting that i should try the pin mod right now and the next time i boot up i should have the processor speed anywhere from 2.3ghz to 3.0ghz and if my temp rises upto 70 degrees or more while idle and or ingame i should get a better cooling? Even though i do think i should because the cooling sucks bawls in here....

Its a compaq pc btw...

70c? Yes, better cooling is needed!

Also, do stability tests like super pi, and programs like that that stress the cpu.

I believe the overheating is happening in my cpu because of the cooling since i just cleared out the processor cooler and reput it and i havent seen temperature drops but instead increases... And i also believe i have to use some thermal paste because currently i can read everything on my processor and i think the thermal paste the company applied ran out.

Yes, that is more then likely the reason for the high temps

Clean off both the cpu and the cooler and apply a droplet the size of a rice grain to the cpu. Dont spread it, just put back the cooler and let the presure of that spread the paste
