Go for this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=zalman%209900

Yeah, it may be pricier, but hey, Zalman's probably one of the best coolers bar none, and it is compatible with the Phenom II architecture, from what I can see...

You cannot go wrong with the Freezer 7 pro, and arctic silver 5 paste.

I use this one on my 955. I am running 3.7ghz. I changed the fan out to a panaflo medium speed fan. Keeps my processor pretty cool.

The Zalman is crap, especially for it's price.

The Mugen 2 is amazing, I run it on mine. If you use the included fan the damn thing is almost completely silent. The only con of the thing is it's installation and size. But if you want good cooling you gotta go big.

The only reason to stick with the Zalman is if you Mugen 2 doens't fit.

EDIT: 70 dollars for medium effectiveness air cooling? You're moving into the watercooling price range at that price.

I bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus that works awesome. I had to buy this one in particular due to the horizontal vs vertical mounting for the heatsink. If you mount a Heatsink vertical on most of the AMD boards I have seen you will block the first memory port, so I had to find a Heatsink that mounted vertically and kept my pc cool. I am very happy with my 955BE at 20c idle, in an ANTEC 900 case.

+1. I use this for my 955 and while I don't have it OC'd at the moment (its currently at 24C with no fan running), it can do really well even at the higher voltages. 1.5 and beyond are doable with this cooler

Zalman don't make the best coolers anymore, in fact they're only mediocre. For the price you're better off getting a Megahalemor a True

I like my Zalman, this is what I have, but I recommend the Freezer 7 Pro as its cheaper and just as effective.

No seconds on my opinion? I really think this is a great cooler! Cheap, and provides multiple mounting positions! No-one else runs a Cooler Master Hyper 212plus?

I pre-media beta tested the CM Hyper212 + and can confirm that it's a GREAT cooler!
In fact, I prefer it over my TRUE120 because of the multiple mounting positions - and it keeps my system almost the same exact temp.

Add to that it's ~ $25USD and you've got a winner!!

I got an 3 years old Zalman 9500 on my PII BE 955 @ 3.6 (without voltage increase) and I#m pretty satisfyed. 35...37° idle and not more than 52°C after 30 min Prime95.
I would take either Zalman 9700 version or this one without a second doubt:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118051

that wouldn't have been the case had you bought an Tuniq tower 120

^^ Not really, if the HS was mounted horizontally, it would still be blocking my first Ram port. Has more to do with the design of the motherboard.

^ Indeed - I concur.
Most of the ASUS boards have a rather large HS on the NB and across the MOSFET/Choke area that prohibits a lot of the larger tower coolers that can only be mounted in the horizontal position (TRUE120 - I'm talkin' to YOU!)

The beauty of the Hyper 212+ is that it can be mounted in EITHER direction without any difficulty, making it possible to clear everything on these ASUS boards, and still have room to populate the first RAM bank.

Add to that their cooling efficiency is on par with the TRUE120, and then price it for ~ $25USD, and you can't go wrong!!

I'm using a pair of 1600 rpm Scythe S-Flex 120mm fans instead of the stock fan, but the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus hasn't let me down yet.

Even on stock cooling, it seems like I'm doing approx. 25c idle, and 53c load, which isn't TOO bad, just so long as I hold off on OC'ing until I do pick up an aftermarket HSF. These readings are coming from SpeedFan, btw.

Your tempertures scare me, even with your cooler

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2639/dscf0002pb.jpg This is my PC, Phenom II 955, Zalman 9700, 8gigs OCZ ram and GTX260 and a X-Fi Extream gamer

Even when I overclocked my CPU to 4ghz at 1.52 volts, I was -NOWHERE- close to 55C, the highest I got with my cooling setup was 43C total

Yes, my case moves ALOT of air, almost sounds like a air conditioner, but it keeps things SUPER cold

I sacrifice some cooling for quiet. You can barely hear my rig is on from 1m away. I'm in the school of thought "pics or it didn't happen" though.

Well, even tho I still use the stock HSF, I set my Antec 900 fans to full blast, even tho it's noisy, there's no sign of any high temps that I know of.
