Default pixel pitch definition and 1440x1080 custom resolution - 11-02-2009, 20:57 | posts: 989 | Location: BRAZIL | User is Offline

hi

i just bought dell's SP2309W monitor, which is 23'' 2ms 2048x1152 resolution, and i had really high hopes for it, now that i have it and im using it, i cant say its bad but i thought it would be much better

the first thing that comes to my mind, is that the pixel definition is not that great, you know that effect that happens on badly scaled resolutions like you look at the letters on the screen and you see an "m" with the middle "leg" different than the other? or an "o" with the right curve larger than the left, etc. it doesnt happen as often as it used back in the 15'' 1024x768 monitors days when you switched to 800x600 and you would get that effect over all letters on the screen. why does it happen on a high-end monitor like this one?

also, I bought this monitor thinking i would be able to reach 1440x1080 4:3 resolution and 1440x1152 5:4 resolution, since the max vertical number of pixels is 1152, those would fit the screen, but the monitor doesnt accept them, i tried playing with nvidia scaling options but still the monitor wouldnt accept. it doesnt make sense for it to accept 1280x960 and 1280x1024 and not the others that fit.

could anyone with a full hd monitor try to set it to 1440x1080 to see if it works please?

thanks in advance

NVCpl should offer options to set a custom resolution.

Example

I'm not familiar with how it goes in XP, but with Windows 7 you can change the ClearType rendering options, allowing you to finely tune how text appears (anti-aliasing type stuff). If you haven't already enabled ClearType at all in XP, give it a shot.

i used nvidia control panel to set the custom resolutions and enabling cleartype doesnt solve the problem in games

go to dell.com . dl and install your monitor driver if you havn't .

just curious , why are you using anything besides 2048x1152 if that is your native resolution ?

Okay so your monitor is stretching 4:3 resolutions to fill the entire screen instead of showing black bars on the sides.

Is there a setting on your monitor somewhere for that? Or maybe you should have just got a CRT monitor.

so you are saying that some of your games do not offer 2048x1152 in the actual 'in-game' menu ?

if that is true , list the games you are refering to so we can help you fix it .

no no no, it isnt stretching the game, it can display it with black bars on the sides and even 1:1 size, the problem is that the highest 4:3 resolution it allows me to use is 1280x960 (and 1280x1024 as the highest 5:4 resolution), but it doesnt make sense not allowing me to use 1440x1080 since it fits the screen! the screen is 1152 pixels tall, 1440x1080 is 1080 pixels tall so it fits, just like 1280x960, but it doesnt accept it! i think its my monitor that refuses any resolution other than it knows because my friend's LG 19'' LCD supports 1280x1024 max (4:3) and i could output any resolution that fits his monitor, even widescreen. So that left me hoping i could do the same here and its not working :\

I just want someone with a 1920x1080 monitor test if 1440x1080 forced (by adding custom resolution on nvidia/ati control panel) works or not, so i will know if its my monitor being bitchy and its possible or if there is really no way to do it.
