Default Auzen Forte Issues. DOLBY & DTS - 10-31-2009, 14:16 | posts: 719 | Location: West Chester, PA | User is Offline

I just bought a Auzen Forte 7.1. I have had nothing but trouble with it. One of the biggest reason for buying it was so I could use Dolby Live & DTS Interactive. I just installed it & everything is working besides these features. I have noise tested my speaker via the Auzentech software & it works correctly. I also do have the latest driver. Every game I try, I lose sound when it's started. I'm currently running Windows 7 x64 & have it connected via a coaxial cable to my receiver. I get sound, just not in-game. Does the game need to support these features? Also when enabling Dolby Live or DTS Intractive I'm not able to play normal DTS or Dolby Digital movies. I'm assuming I must disable these encoders for the movies to play correctly. Is that correct?

Side note: I bought it from a a Guru here & also want to make sure I didn't purchase a defective card.

Update. Seems I needed to add to Alchemy for Borderlands. Normal?

I assure you that card works fine but I've only used it in Windows XP on my HTPC. FYI the DACs (digital-->audio converters) on that sound card are likely way better than what your receiver has so I would try setting up for analog sound out to the receiver. I sold you that card because I went with a high-end receiver that actually performs better than that sound card. I responded to your issue in your other thread. You're having software issues with Windows 7 not a hardware issue due to faulty hardware.

Sounds like Windows 7 issues. I have a high end Pioneer receiver. I did order some analog cable today, so I'll see if that helps. I'm sure the card is fine, it's just frustrating to get a new toy you can't fully play with. Thanks though. Plus I didn't mean to imply the card was at fault.

Make sure windows is set to use 5.1 sound (Configure through Windows Control Panel, just to make sure), and make sure the game sports a 5.1 option if avaliable.

DDL/DTS-C does not upmix to 5.1 (ie, a 2.0 signal encoded with DDL/DTS-C will still output 2.0), but you can always tac Pro-Logic/CMSS3D on to handle the upmixing.

Is it normal to have to use Alchemy when encoding in Dolby Live or DTS Interactive to get any sound? It seems all my games need Alchemy, even the latest such as Dragon Age - Origins, I thought this utility was only for older Legacy games.

Are you getting ANY sound, even in 2.0 mode? (in games, i mean).

Really, all DDL/DTS-C does is take a unencoded signal and changes it to a Dolby/DTS stream. I've never had any issues using either tech. Also, having DDL/DTS-C shouldn't affect watching movies (DD/DTS encoded audio has nothing happen to it), so I'm banking on some sort of configuration issue somewhere...

Nope, he's right about it affecting movies. When you're playing DVD's or AC3 material, you should set the encoder (either DTS:I or Dolby Live) to off, so that the througput of digital audio is enabled. That's the only way it'll work. Not really a problem though, just remember to turn it back on when you're finished.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Yes the games play in stereo while the encoders are off. So I guess everything's working fine. I'm new to these X-Fi sound cards & thought it would be simpler to use. But it looks like I'll have to customize each game I play for it to work correctly. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Right now I'm using the digital output until my analog cables arrive. I don't know if a combination of the digital output & analog will make it more complicated or not. But I must say some of these games, such as COD - WaW sounds fantastic on the PC in surround sound. I have it both on the PC & on the Xbox 360. The quality difference is night and day.

I used to do digital out for movies and analog output for music with that card

Also, if you have a decent pair of headphones try the headphone amplifier.

Update. Seems I needed to add to Alchemy for Borderlands. Normal?
How is the Windows audio control panel set up?
Many in Vista would set it for S/Pdif and that would knock out the sound. They needed to se the control panel to speakers and set the card to use the encoders.
Also, you would disable these encoders for playing movies that are already surround sound. The two are not really related in the way your suggesting.
Games do not have to have these features either.
The ecoders take whatever sound is coming through and encode it to DD or DTS.

I had to add Borderlands in Alchemy to get audio in the cut scenes. Same for Batman Arkham Asylum.
