Default 3DMark06 Score - 09-27-2009, 23:19 | posts: 4 | User is Offline

Hi all,

I've been reading the forums for a while now. I don't really do any overclocking or anything like that , but after upgrading my video card I feel my system isn't running as expected. I was told by a friend to try running a benchmark program and pointed towards 3DMark06. Here is my score, it says Windows 7 beta though I am running RTM Ultimate build 7600. If you guys could take a quick look and tell me what you think I'd appreciate it. Any other questions I'd be glad to answer. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I would put it down to the CPU, I used to have the same one and it was bottlenecking my card like crazy - I went from 9000 3DM06 points to roughly 12000 with the same card and a quad core! (Vista x64)

My guess is it is your proc that is holding back your score. I score 12100 with the specs to my left. Before I upgraded to a core2 3.0GHz I was using a single core Pentium4 3.4GHz prescott and I scored around 6K. My score literally doubled with the extra CPU and more power to my 9600GT.

that score is normal for your system.

but 3dmark 06 is pretty useless, its completely CPU bound usually. very rarely you will see any gain by upgrading your GPU.

the old athlon x2's are just too weak compared to todays cpu's(athlon 2, phenom II, core i7) so upgrade that when you can.

Your CPU is seriously bottlenecking you! FWIW; I don't believe the "common system" BS. They just want you to upgrade all your hardware! I get almost 17,000 with the 4870.
