I have Windows 7, an XFX GX275 Nvidia card with 190.62 drivers installed.

The following problem arises. At first i wondered why is the card getting 94 degrees celsius? :bang:

I found out the FAN speed does not rise when you start gaming e.g. crysis. So if i would not have found a way to manually set the FAN speed at a higher level i believe it would have burned out my videocard.

At the internet i saw people with the same problem, e.g. on tweakers.net someone burned out his videocard due to this reason.

I contacted XFX and the ticket is waiting for response.

Are there any other people having FAN speed problems or high temperature problems? (because the FAN speed stays low)

In the ticket with XFX i asked for another update to flash the BIOS, but there are no new bios'ses availlable. :puke2:

So the situation now is i have to manually turn the FAN speed with EVGA precision whenever i want to play a game. Now the temperature is only 78 degrees celsius at 55 % FAN speed.

Whenever i turn EVGA (or the NVIDIA system tools) on AUTO FAN speed the problem is as described, the FAN speed remains stuck at 40 percent.

So the problem is on Windows 7, clean install, without EVGA, without NVIDIA system tools, the FAN remains stuck at 40 percent, the card gets extremely hot and so does everything wich is in contact with the card.

If i would not have had sense to look at the problem my whole PC system could have burned out.

Do you have the same problem on VISTA? I think it is a BIOS error of the XFX video card.

u have evga precision? just creat a profile..and turn off auto fan. stick fan to 60 percent click apply. fan should kick in. save profile.

when done gaming click reset all. fans and gpu should go back to 40 percent and 2d clocks.

this is a known problem with xfx gtx275 cards, the card does not have 2D mode, and the fan is somehow stupid.
mine only increases fan speed when reaching 96c, which is absurd, i´de like to know the maximum temperature this cards car hold without problems.

here is the answer xfx game me awhile back:

[ 8/3/2009 2:35:47 PM] "hello, i purchased a gtx 275 core edition this week and the card only does 3d mode, at the desktop it doesn´t goes into 2d clocks and keeps wasting energy and overheating. i´ve tried various drivers, and i see some people complaning about the same problem. i would like to know a way to solve this please. thank you

[JAMES 8/3/2009 5:04:25 PM] HI, yes the clocks do not reduce in 2-d mode for this model. But as power consumed depends on the load on the GPU and RAM, the extra power consumed will be negligible. kind regards, James."

Does an Asus gtx 275 have the same problem?

I think about RMA, only computer specialist can use this card.

95 celsius is far to hot, it is only the unfortunate fan speed control build into the cards bios.

i knew i am not the only one having these problems.

could not sell such a card with such a problem.

nvidia says card dies at 105 degrees celsius, but my computer case gets burning hot.

In my opinion a card should manage the FAN speeds itself. It is the temperature wich is way to much. 84 degrees celsius might be acceptable.

Doing the FAN manually really is a dissapointment.

I am just something like 10 degrees below max of 105 celsius.

Are there people who have a really hot card e.g. 94 degrees where the computer case at the back gets really hot too? I can lay my finger on it, it is not boiling.

How many years would a card survive at that temperature? I am not gaming all the time but say 2 hours a day. Do others have had a card like that so hot for say two years? Does your computer case get hot there too?

yes, all gtx275 are very hot cards, reaching +90c in some games, so it´s not your card.
i´m glad i choose a xfx card cause it has 10 years warranty in Europe, evga has the same to.

hi YWAGMOTH, i have very good news for you.

You can create FAN profiles with Rivatuner.
    http://www.guru3d.com/article/rivatuner-20-fan-speed--overclock-guide/
But rivatuner has been updated, at a certain step you cannot go on with the fan treshold tempuratures.

When you are at that point goto scheduler TAB instead of Main inside Rivatuner.
Remember to install Rivatuner with updates bceause the update includes the signed 64 bit rivatuner .sys driver.

    Create the FAN profiles first.

Instead of the monitor you must be at the scheduler after you created Fan entries. On the image below is the old rivatuner.

Below is where you should be, in the new version it went to the scheduler.

I disabled UAC inside windows because rivatuner wanted everytime permission on startup.

It is not a solution for noobs, but the card is much cooler, i used rivatuner fan profiles to kick in at 60 degrees celsius upto 76 % when the card is 59 degrees celsius again the fan goes to 40% again.

I now play crysis at 77 degrees Celsius.

i´ve used rivatuner a long time ago but i like evga precision better.
now i use 2 profiles, one for gaming with fan at 70% and one at idle were i lowered the max i could the frequencies and have automatic fan speed.

just by curiosity, how are your temps in idle with fan at 40% and what fan speed you use to play crysis at 77c?
in warhead it does to 85c to me but it´s really hot in my country, about 35c.

well i got mine 275 today

installed .62 drivers all was good,as others mention i start to see that 2d/3d modes changes constantly...restarted pc and now im stuck with 3d mode (633 mhz aero on/off)

as for a temp and fan, mine idle about 53C in 28C room with 40% speed, in vantage it goes to 80C and fan still stays @ 40%, so i manually rised it to 80% and now i have 70C

Looks like this drivers suxx ass, but performance wise i didnt see any problems so far.

Now im lookin for way to switch to 2d mode when needed, anyone have a clue ?

i think that is a problem with windows7, are you using it?
i saw some other people complaining about that problem, read in the driver threat, i think they solved that issue.
as for me, i´m stuck to 3d mode so i don´t have that problem...lol

Are these drivers availlable for offline download? I tried 186.18 but no solution under windows 7.

Like i said, if you want to kick in the fan at a determined speed at a certain temperature automaticly you need to use rivatuner and create fan profiles and program the scheduler of rivatuner to kick in at certain temperatures.

This is what XFX has to say
[JASONH 9/1/2009 6:33:50 PM] Hi, thanks for your message, with the newer drivers some cards have had problems with the fan speeds but we are working with nvidia to fix this with a new driver, so we do recommend you roll back a driver and wait for the next update. Also, there is no new bios for your card and please make sure you have a well ventilated system with a good air flow. Regards Jason

I gonna show you something shocking.

This will happen if you continue to use your card at stock FAN speeds, it is a 2 year old 8800GXT operated at 92celsius at full load.

Look what happens and you look at it, YOU MUST USE SOMETHING TO PREVENT THIS, USE RIVATUNER OR EVGA PRECISION.

    Very shocking :3eyes:

[ 8/31/2009 9:14:15 PM] Fan speed does not raise during load (gaming) it remains the same as idle. Having NVIDIA 190.62 drivers, gets 94 celsius. With a program from NVIDIA i can set the fanspeed manually but this isn`t wat i want, turning fan low in desktop manually, and high before gaming isn`t fun anymore. Need new bios? Tried 186 nvidia drivers, same issue, :(
[ 8/31/2009 9:29:01 PM] When i manually turn the fan speed at 56 percent the card during gaming stays on 80 celsius degrees, i want the card to adjust the fan speed itself, i was just lucky i found it out the card was burning out because the fan speed isn`t adjusted so i looked on the internet how to manually adjust the fan speed. Very sad. Please help, the fan should auto adjust.
[ 9/1/2009 8:48:29 AM] Found other people with same problem.

(DEFECT after 2 years just outside warranty) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2498/3870463497_59b1ed3a50_o.jpg I have a momentory solution, here to create FAN profiles. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3260624#post3260624 XFX is not the only one with this problem, please inform your customers. Please inform me if you have a better solution.

Rollback of drivers was not a solution, at this moment only RIVATUNER and creating and scheduling FAN profiles is.

Fan at 76 %, room temperature is 23 degrees.

When i quit Crysis rivatuner detects when the temperature is below 60 degrees and automaticly switches back to 40% fan speed.

    Hi, it is the 2nd
    [IMG]

Before creating fan profiles with rivatuner it hitted 94C degrees celsius. Now its 77C/78C at 76% fan speed. I added a profile when it reaches 85C degrees but that profile fan speed never kicks in.

    Hi,

This issue is not only with the XFX 275, but also with the newer XFX 260 models as well. I have 2 black edition cards, one is the 65nm version and this does clock down to 2d speeds, but the newer one based on the 55nm version of the chip has no 2d mode, and also gets extremely hot. XFX support has basically been totally useless. Why these cards do not downclock and then the fan problems as well.

Using fan profiles also does not solve the issue, if the computer resumes from sleep they are never remembered, eventhough I have Rivatuner set to restore the fans. I eventually modified the card's BIOS with a far more aggressive fan speed profile and it seems to be a bit better. But running the cards in Sli there is a lot of heat.

So in summary, it seems to be poor design by XFX.

EVGA Precision tool can't handle linear growing fan duty cycles, can it?
That's why I prefer RT, since after you found a good setup, you can edit your graphic cards BIOS and program it in.
XFX did send me a BIOS update when I had a problem with on of their 8800GT's, after some days of writing back and forward, including adding of test-results and settings I got by testing around with RT.
Wonder if they ever released that BIOS as an update on their site...

With my current RT profile, stock cooling and AC5 my cards are max 70C at full load, with the case open.
PS. The AC5 didn't help much, seems like EVGA and ASUS use descent thermal paste quality.
