Indeed. You do realize a pentium D is much, much worse than what you have now? At the speeds you have your current CPU is much faster than that.

Pentium dualcore (1.8ghz) beats a Pentium D (3.2ghz)

Yeah Pentium Dual-Core are different from Pentium Ds. The architecture of the Dual Cores are similar to the Core2Duos (if not the same) but has lower cache and such but they will be faster than the Pentium D.

Your next CPU upgrade I would recommend:

Multimedia/Gaming:
Q6600 ($200~) Runs cool/alright power consumption/OC's very well (3.4-3.6+ easy) (65nm)
Q8200 ($170~) Runs cooler/less power consumption/OC's good (2.8-3.2+ easy) (45nm)

Gaming:
E8500 ($187~) Runs cool/OC's (3.8-4.0+ easily) on low voltage (45nm)
E8400 ($165~) Runs cool/OC's (3.6-3.8+ easily) on low voltage (45nm)

Any of these you would see a good improvement in performance and the higher the OC the less bottleneck it would be for the video cards and thus increasing the full potential/power of the cards. I would suggest going for a new monitor though so you can run games at higher resolution which will actually make use of your video card's power.

Eh, thought you said you only spent $390?

In any case if you got your current CPU (E2180) to run 3.4 or higher then having one GTX260 is fine and will run with a little bottleneck but you jumped the gun and went for 2 of em lol. Now thats a bit of an over over kill so just saying you'll get more performance out of those cards if you upgrade your CPU to one that clocks higher. Seriously you can play Crysis fine with your upcoming setup just you will have a 2 fast video cards that are on a speed limit per say.

The reason why Pentium Ds arent that great is because they're really old architecture. Pentium 4 wasnt that great and Pentium Ds are basically dual Pentium 4s in terms of performance hence the Core2s came out and replaced them.

if you are comparing pentium dual core with a pentium d processor then i think pentium d is a good choice for the reason that it has 4Mb L2 cache and you can choose clock speeds from 2.80 to 3.60ghz, [9 series]. You might also consider pentium dual core E5300, 2.60ghz, 2Mb L2 cache and E5200, 2.50ghz, 2Mb L2 cache if your budget is tight.

well I pentium-D u'd run hot like hell whereas the pentium dual cores u'd run very cool & OC like hell+the newer architecture benefits the OCing capability & a very good processor for the money

the processor that I u'd recommend to the OP u'd be the E5200(with great OC potential)
