Default PCI ghetto mod (GTX260, Antec 900) - 09-04-2008, 19:25 | posts: 600

Before:
System 45C
Ambient (GPU) 47
GPU: 62

After:
System: 37C ! 8C out of case, the "lid area" under your gpu.
Ambient: 45C
GPU: 60C

temps @ load, 20min Crysis

With GTX260 max oc'd, I found my 'System' temp raised quite a bit, from say 41C with G92 to 45C with GTX260, and after experienced few BSODs, I decided to do something about it.

My plan was to get rid of all the PCI plates under the GTX260 and add a fan on the outside, sucking air from the case.

Luckily I had the perfect fan: 100mm size from my HSF Scythe Mine..it's nearly ideal, 1cm too small on each side to have a perfect fit on the back of the Antec 900. So, put some cardboard box under it to raise the fan to DVI-port level on card. This very fan had a cord that JUST made it to nearest 3pin connector on my mobo, DS3R rev1.0....but eventually I added a Zalman Fanmate (coz 1500rpm sucked itself against the case, made irritating sound) for 1300rpm level. That cord is also LONG and I have it outside case for manual control.

whats wrong with 8C system temp loss?

thats what the mod was about, if I wanted cooler gpu...100% fan

EDIT ///

The air this 100mm blows out is something else than what's coming from the GTX260 exhaust. My mod also sucks air out from that, not just the empty PCI slots. It's like saying "whats wrong with 75C cpus"....

Many gamers have the X-fi installed (no mod if cords attached to backside), but I'm satisfied with the onboard chip. Actually I'm thinking of getting RID OF the whole damn backside under GPU...1500rpm doesn't even whisper, and temps so so chilly.

I dont like temp readings on hardware. What are the mem temps when oc'd? no idea, coz it's not implemented. bsods makes u wonder and take actions, I made a big one, reducing 8C (21%) with 0$ !

i wouldnt call this "I reduced my floppy temp" ...ofcourse there is a connection, temp under gpu..and THAT MUCH..8C...insane

what air does the gpu suck in ?

soz, my digi cam from 2001 eats batteries, put 4 in , it charges flash and its almost done.

ppl with 45c system (first temp shown in speedfan) under gaming, concider this since its fool proof with a 100mm fan. even tho gpu/amb temps dropped 2C...what did the 95C parts drop to?

There's something wrong ith yours sytem if you get BSOD's whe nyour system temp is not even hitting 50c. It's also weird why it is that high when you have Antec Nine Hundred. With my case system temp barely goes above 30c in full load.

I only wanted pictures to see how it looked and how good a job you had done. If that makes me an idiot, then I guess I am guilty?

For ****'s sake Barton, I believe you. All of us do. All any of us have said are "Let us see how it looks" and "The temps you were getting were not high, and may not be the cause of the BSOD".

Stop being such a jerk-off.
