Default Wrong device? - 06-01-2008, 17:40 | posts: 5

I seek help with rivatuner, I have vista 32bit and its showing the wrong device for riva. As you can see from the image that is not the correct video card. Even if I click the pull down it does now show my card under the list. I got the recent stable video drivers from nivida no beta ones.

Any way around this or ways to fix ths?

is there any other issues besides the name being wrong ?
because your card is correctly recognized as being a G80 core with 96SP (which correspond to it being a 8800GTS)

if you upgraded from a 7600GT before, I would say this is a leftover from previous driver install

in any case, if that's just the name being wrong, no big deal really

Yeah I did some searching and found out about that. I also figured out how to fix that too. I just used drive sweeper in safe mode. Problem is that option under overclock/nivida in poweruser mode is not there. Its called shaderoverclock or something. Its supposed to let me use ATI-tool.

This is what I get with ati-tool so it wont work.

I even tried to use ntune and I get this error.

Not sure what to do the settings for the clock and core speed will just not stick at all. I dont know if the settings I put are indeed changing. If so I could make a profile and set it each time I go into a game and what not.

I was suggested to use NForceware to over clock I just dont know.

I never had these problems before with every other video card I had before their was no problem.

I'm not quite sure what's your problem

what option is missing?
are you sure your problem is still limited to rivatuner ?

Its a registry type option under power user for the shaderclock. I got everything running I was able to overclock it just the memory though. I cant change anything with the shaderclock or the main core. I reboot and set the settings but under everrest its the same default.

I had searched on these forums and found something about setting shaderclock something in poweruser configuration to -1 to allow you to change the main core.

I dont know why it wont let me change the core. Its a EVGA 8800gts and I googled info on it and people seemed to been able to overclock it. Just didnt explain how.

hum so you can change core, shader & memory clocks in rivatuner but if you reboot and then check in everest there's nothing ?

did you check the box to apply overclocks at startup ?
(you don't need to reboot btw, overclocks are applied on the fly)

I don't really know everest, just by name and it's not specific to GPUs...
I would check with GPU-Z instead : http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

also rivatuner own hardware monitoring tool can watch your gpu clocks

Everest is the only tool besides RT that is currently reading _REAL_ clocks.

Yeah you got that half right. I have done that its just the only thing I cant change is the core and shader. I can change the memory fine. Someone was saying you can only change those to 8 series? That didnt make sense to me isnt the 8800gts a 8th series?

well since overclocks are done through driver I would say
maybe you could try different driver sets or to uninstall / clean / reinstall

moreso since in the first place you had problems with a bugged gfx card name due to a uncleaned previous installation

just suggesting though
