    What about wide aspect resolutions?

    Hello, I've modded my ATI Mobility 9600 Pro on a Dell D800 to the FireGL T2 using 8083 version of the driver, I've yet not tried the newer versions that appears in this thread, but with that version it seems that it does not detect the Wide Aspect of the Flat Panel. I have a 1920x1200 native resolution but the screen appears at 1600x1200 with the right part of the screen black. If I select 1920x1200 it appears at 1600x1200 but with a virtual desktop of 1920x1200.

    Any idea?

    Regards,

    - german

    I answer myself, I use dhmodtool to add the mobility cards to the .inf (using 8.263 driver), then I add the wide resolutions manually and patch with the rivatuner scripts. Now everything is working perfectly, the only problem is that I get no opengl tab in the control panel, although I patched the ogl. Anyway I keep reading and try to solve that.

    You will not get an OpenGL tab, because you don't have a real FireGL, so the applet was not installed by the automated install.
    Use ATT or ATI tool as a replacement or try patching the control panel install files in order to work with your hardware ID.

    What about the configuration tab with apps profiles? I do not get it either. May it be related to using the 8.263 instead of 8062?

    nope... you get the app profiles even when using 8.293 ... so try to reinstall the CP...

    also... 3ds max 9 is OUT :tomcat:

    DirectX performace is OFF THE SCALE... Beats fireGL with over 300% on my system...

    download the trial here....

    would you say that there was no point in:

    a: firegl drivers now? - are the Cats as good as the FGLs in directX?
    b: patching the FGLmax driver for use in max 9 (would directx be faster?)

    thanks - MAX 9 is amzing btw - they really sorted out the high poly problem

    well... FireGL isn't working right now in 3ds max 9... i compared it to max 8... i wonder if quadro is working or not...

    they should release an update soon...

    sorry to ask this question, but how about a radeon moblity x1400?
    what´s it´s equivalent?

    this card is just having a 128bit ring controller and only using ram as graphics memory.
    the only newer mobility firegl i´ve seen is the 5200 ut this one is having the 256bit controller and ram "onboard"

    is there a way to mod a mobility x1400 to a firegl v5200 mobility ??

    already used the search function and read some threads, but found nothing concerning the x1400 , so any hint is welcome.

    thanks

    well... dig a little harder...

    you can create your own firegl card and patch it into the driver you do not need any equivalent...

    as far as i know x1400 uses 128 of it's own memory and 128 Hyper memory from the ram... the bad news is that if you have an integrated or an only-share chip you probably won't be able to mod...

    it's worth a shot anyways....

    don´t get me wrong , i already patched drivers for 9800xt ,x800 and did the nvstrap tweak for a nvidia 6800 gs. all of them sucessfully.

    i´m just curious if somebody already tried to patch this igp. that´s why i am asking. but maybe i´ll just give it a try and see what happens.

    and yep , it´s an internal card , driver info tells me 512mb for this card on a laptop with 2 gig ram.

    as far as i know x1400 is NOT an IGP.... even if it uses part of the pc ram as memory... thus the term Hypermemory and not shared...

    IF it is an IGP... again ... to my knowledge.. there is no way to mod it into fireGL ...

    yep you are right. i found out myself too, it´s a card not an igp and it has 256mb onboard and 256mb hypermemory. didn´t have time yet to mod a driver, but will try tomorrow. will let you know about the results.

    x1400 mobility to m54gl

    thank you all for your efforts. especially unwinder, huangyanhao and samov.

    i did unlock the opengl capacities of my x1400 mobility. there is no opengl equivalent for this card so i did as samov said : make your own card !!!

    thank you samov for this hint.

    for those of you that are having the same card i will post what i did here.

    i downloaded two drivers for this

    1. a radeon/firegl-mobility driver (version 8.293) from ibm ( search for drivers for the t60 lenovo thinkpad)

    2. the original firegl driver (version 8.293) from ati

    it´s necessary to have both drivers because the ati2mtag.sys from ibm´s mobility driver won´t patch successfully with huangyanhao´s script.

    the script :

    Code:
    [Common]
    SrcFile = ati2mtag.sys
    BakFile = ati2mtag.old
    HlpFile = SoftR9x00.rth
    MakeCRC = 1
    Packed = 1

    ;common script for 663X+

    with this script patch and force m54gl to the ati2mtag.sy_ from ati´s firegl driver, then copy the new ati2mtag.sys to the driversfolder from ibm´s mobility driver. delete the original ati2mtag.sy_ from ibm.

    now all, you have to do is change the driver inf for the ibm mobility driver
    for xp this one : CX_36475.INF.

    here you will have to replace the device id´s of the v5200gl ( m56gl) with the ones from the x1400 mobility :

    should then look like this :

    Code:
    ...
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL M54GL" = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145&SUBSYS_200617AA
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL M54GL " = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145&SUBSYS_202A17AA
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL M54GL  " = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145&SUBSYS_202D17AA
    ...

    save and install driver

    worked for me.

    my specviewperf8.1 results :

    x1400 mobility :

    Code:
    Run All Summary

    there´s a boost of about 300% except for ugs,
    dunno yet why this doesn´t work so well for ugs, but since i´m working with maya i don´t care that much about it.

    good luck for your own patching

    update of my experience with x1400 to mobility 54gl

    found some rather strange information about the core and memory timings in ati-traytools ,ati control center and atittool.

    ddunno why but timings for core clock speed and mem speed are somehow not correct. thought that driver mod does not change clockspeeds, but now i´m a little confused.

    x1400 moblity does actually have core-clock set to 445 mhz and memory is clocked to 250 mhz.

    ati´s controlcenter does tell me core clock 128 and mem 135

    [IMG]

    ati tray tools show core clock at 398 mhz and mem at 350 ( 100 mhz too high)

    [IMG]

    atitool can´t even read the timing from bios.

    should this be alerting or is it just that these tools are not reading the timings correctly because of the non existent carddata in the driverdatabase (m54gl) !!

    are these informations just wrong and the card is still working with the timings from original x1400 or is my card´s memory going to fry because of the driver mod ??

    would be grateful to get some info on this problem...

    seems to be the mistake is on my side. the timings are absolutely correct.

    i did forget the powersavingscheme of my lenovo thinkpad. as i figured now it is set to about 90% of gpu max and 70 % in the optimized setting for ac adapter

    when i plug out the ac adapter of course the card and the cpu will be clocked much lower for the gpu and grahphics mem this means about 20% of max clock.

    had another thinkpad with x1400 for comparison and it showed exactly the same clocking behaviour.

    as i can say now everything is ok and running.

    as i have my first notebook now for 6 days i hope you can forgive my fauxpas.

    good luck with your own patching.

    I was thinking about to buy this laptop or no, because I have a 15.4" wsxga+ laptop (Asus M6V) instead a 17", and I'm afraid if the laptop is too huge to the normal carry use, because I don't want to loose the mobility concept, but the laptop is very good and the prize is very very good.
    I'm very confused. I don't know what to do...

    And the most important, what do you choose matte or glossy screen?

    Thank you.

    well ... i personally don't mind the extra weight... i like working on big screens, less stressfull to the eyes. My 17 inch nx9420 weights a surprising 3.2 kg + 150 g for the power brick ... ( compared to my old zd8000 4.4 kg and another 400g for the power brick - that's 180 w brick :D )

    you can also opt for the nw8440 line... it's mainly like the nx9420 only it has 15.4 and a real firegl ( if you care for one )... for a slightly higher price..
