do you really have to install the dual core optimizer? what's the purpose of that?
i did a research and came up with this:
http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=79777
seems like it causes problems...

No problems what so ever here. Although i don't notice any big improvements also, so.... it's up to you.
Just give it a try

your_left_nut,
That has no relevance to the new dualcore fix, you can see on the date it was started in 2005.
And dualcore (or multicore) is new, we are basically still in the beta stage so just wait a few years and it will be optimized alot

Yep alot of games still dont support dual core so it is going to be awhile for everything to settle down so dual core can shine. Trust me someday we will be able to show off our powerfull system.

A couple of my games, namely Quake 4 and Tomb Raider Legend, kept resetting my PC and I was mystified as to the cause until I decided to uninstall AMD's dual-core optimizer and, hey presto, my resetting issue went away!
I've installed the v1.3.2 AMD dual-core drivers with no problems and decided to try out Microsoft's dual-core hotfix instead as I've heard this does the same thing as AMD's dual-core optimizer. So far I've not had any games resetting with it installed so I guess AMD's software just doesn't work properly on my setup, it's fine for Windows usage but not for all of my games.

I get the BSOD when I reboot after installing the optimizer. Uninstall it and no more BSOD. I guess I'll just have to wait for a new version.

I've just upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, memory and CPU so my Windows XP SP2 install was fresh. After a week, I installed the AMD dual-core drivers v1.3.2 and then the AMD dual-core optimizer, that's when I started having problems with a couple of my games resetting my PC. Once I'd uninstalled the optimizer, my resetting issues went away (although now I've actually said that I'll probably play a game later and it's Sod's Law that it'll reset my computer!!!)...

I installed the microsoft dual core fix and the AMD cpu drivers first. Maybe that's what's causing my bsod.
But I've just recently installed a fresh copy of windows and haven't installed those fixes yet. So I guess I'll try the AMD dual core optimizer without the other fixes and see what happens.

Yeah, me too. My 4400+ arrives wednesday. I think with the new x2 prices it will be good if someone more skilled writes a "single to dual core cpu installation guide" because in a couple of days there will be a million threads like "change to dual core and lost performance". But hey...€242 for a 4400+ it's a dream

I have been researching this myself because I am due to recieve my new rig soon (details on the left, in my profile).
A lot of people have recommended installing ONLY the AMD drivers, then the MS Hotfix, and THEN the Optimizer. See if that works for you.

No problems on mine either.
I installed the AMD driver an the AMD optimizer only, and all is well.
I also installed that newer optimizer on the front page, and no problems still.
All my games fly, from Quake4 to Fear.
When i first built my new system i had issues, had a bad Liberty 620 watt PS, it gave me some grief before i figured it was the cause, and then the magic smoke got out, and the genie was gone.
Bought a Antec TP550SEP PS and no ills no more.
Just my 2 cents.
