Default Nvidia System Sentinel Warning - 04-19-2006, 06:03 | posts: 6,505 | Location: Singapore | User is Offline

I just installed my evga geforce 7600gt and encountered these problems

1."nvidia system sentinel is reporting that the nvidia powered graphics card is receiving insufficient power...blah blah"

i have a hec acepower 480w PSU (12v1 17A, 12V2 16A). Note that my PSU has 24pins (20+4, the extra 4 being detachable) and my mobo(Asrock 939-dual SATA2) has 20pins.
my sytem has these components installed,(outside the specs on the right)

1 dvd-rom, 1 cd-rw ( sharing one powercable,one power cable has 2-4pin molex and 1 floppy)
1 80gb seagate 7200.9 SATAII (one power cable, SATA L-type)
1 floppy( shares cable with optical drive)
5 fans sharing on one cable ( so 1 molex unused)
1 extra cable ( i used it for my 6600gt AGP before i had my 7600gt PCIe)

Although i have this issue ( nvidia system sentinel) at startup, my system is able to run benchmarks and games

as follows

3dmark 03=12194
3dmark 05=(5626 using 84.25/4997 using 83.91.... WHY IS THIS???)

2. using driver 84.25 and 83.91 i also encountered extremely varied temps (63c idle @ 84.25, 52c idle @ 83.91) load temps are normal though ( 67c from playing CS:SOURCE militia HDR on)

can someone help me please? im paranoid as the card was bought in the states but i live here in the philippines.

thanks guys!

does your PSU have a dedicated pci X 6 pin connector for the gfx card, or are you using a 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci X adapter in which case it uses 2, 4 pin molex to 6 pin to draw enough power.

I would also have said the PCIE GFX CARD power plug not plugged in.... but as you say u do not have one.... Interesting??!!

FROM newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...83#DetailSpecs
"
Requirements Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)"

Now the question is... Is it 12v1 or 12v2 or combination? I can never tell....

try unplugging some of your fans in the meantime... The bigger ones especially!

sentinel warnings aside, i think the system is working ok(hopefully). i did 3 benchmarks each for 3dmark 01, 03 and 05. plus i played 40 mins CS:SOURCE militia. no lockups, crashes whatsoever.

could it be a case of drivers? system drivers?

also, ive read in reviews that my former card ( 6600gt agp, consumes more power than my 7600gt, and i had no such warnings with my 6600gt agp. it had a power connector though)

i also think that the power usage (overall ) isnt that much ( correct me if imwrong as im not that knowledgeable in computer hardware.

tnx

also, the warning said it would throttle down my cards performace to a loer state to avoid damage.. i made 3 benchamrks each for 3d mark 03 and 05, are the numbers i posted lower than a normal 7600gt?

Yes they are, if I clock my Club3d 7600GT to stock settings I get around 6000 3dmark 05 points.

but as far as I know no 7600GT ever has a powerconnector, since the pci-e slot provides enough power (even 10 watt or something more)

Do you have all the power adapters connected on your mobo? I am guessing the card isn't getting enough juice from the mobo, maybe because you forgot one of the connections (the 6600 would have just drawn extra power off the power cable to compensate but this one cannot).

I would fully recomend u get a PSU with at least 20amps on the 12v rail.

You need the bios update that they evga techs are emailing to users who request it on their forum, Or just pm me with your email and I will send it to you. Have seen a few users on their forum with this problem and the bios update fixed their problem with nvidia sentinel warning.

I had this problem running dual 6800 GT's... when it lowered your video settings what its doing is dropping the clocks which yeah is annoying. Video drivers caused it a few times cause hell I was running a PC power and cooling 510 and its rated at over 600 watts with dual rails way over 30amps. Power supply is the first place to go with this..then yeah go with bios of the video card and then video drivers or viseversa. But once its lowers it you have to reboot and that resets the speeds... ps.. I also saw this happen when they got really warm while say wide open in BF2.

Silly me not going to evga first regarding this problem. it actually cost me 1200 pesos ($20) for a mobo upgrade (uli chipset asrock 939dualSATA2 to nforce4 chipset Epox 9nda+) . i emailed them last night ( 9pm philippine time and got three replies from three tech support today at about 10am), they emailed me the new BIOS and instructions on how to update

Talk about great service!! they really do stand behind their products.. well i have to update the bios later to check if it works though

I've never heard of a GF card over 6600 that doesn't have a power connector....

the 7600gt doesnt have a power connector. apparently, it consumes less power than a 6600gt
