What ever is cheapest and has the least intrusive DRM, if any at all.

anything with sony in its name is a no-no in my eyes.. they are the devil

i truely believe HD-DVD will come out on top as the writers can do more compatability with dvd/cd/ram discs. blueray writers cant burn or read cd's for one.

I support neither at the moment. This format war is going to suck...

Beta Vs VHS again. Beta was and still is superior to VHS. Too bad I can't buy blank Beta cassettes anymore.

I'd have to say I support holodiscs. I mean up to 1tb on a single disk!
Sony has already made a lot of people mad with the spyware they secretly where installing on people's PCs. Toshiba will likely cave into demands by the MPAA for intrusive DRM too. Copyright protection has gotten out of hand.

I support BluRay, mainly because the PS3 is going to have it and it probably will be the most popular format.

Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are going to be really restrictive (DRM-wise) though. I know it sucks, but if not enough people do anything about it, it is just going to happen and we're going to pay for rights instead of media.

blu-ray is supposed to be tougher on copy protection measures(which ensures that many people will have problems just like many people have problems with games with starforce protection) but i still support blu-ray for it's bigger storage.

blu-ray has the advantage of being included in the ps3 but hd-dvd has advantages as well, mainly microsoft's monopoly tactics, as this article makes clear...

Quote:
Microsoft must apparently have a lot more at stake in the success of HD DVD than we realized, since apparently they're said to be offering up "coupons" -- or certain cash incentives -- to manufacturers who use HD DVD drives in their future machines. According to the EE Times, Microsoft is also making HD DVD support "free" in Vista, whereas they're charging up to $30 in licensing for Blu-ray support. That drive support licensing figure might sound a little unfair, granted, but remember that Microsoft does have an extensive long standing intellectual property licensing partnership with Toshiba, which could well entitle them to access to use of HD DVD whereas other companies might have to pay for up for the very same. (For example, if Microsoft didn't have that partnership, there might well be a $30 licensing fee for both formats.) It's all a bit cyclical when it comes to the chicken-and-egg partnering/licensing angle though (and we'll refrain from using the M-word for now), but one thing's for sure, a "coupon" incentivize HD DVD adoption on the part of OEMs is very unsettling at best, and it sounds like Microsoft isn't about to just lie down and let the forthcoming format war sort itself out.

I'm normally dead set against anything Sony proprietary. I mean, look what happened with betamax. But, on the other hand, they have such a following with the playstation line, the PS3 will be huge. If nothing else, blu-ray will survive solely due to PS3. Hence my support for it. Granted, HD-DVD will be copy friendly and is the route I'd rather go, but I think the round's gonna go to blu-ray.

You can still buy beta tapes. Fry's electronics carries them. This is a link to them on Fry's online store. If you write down the plu# and bring it in, it's in the Audio/Video department. http://shop3.outpost.com/product/129...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I live in Canada so that doesn't help much. We don't have Fry's up here. $5 for a blank cassette is a lot but I'd expect that for an obsolete format.
