Default Radeon 9800XT Drivers - Which are best for gaming? - 03-19-2004, 04:10 | posts: 7,387 | Location: Eastern Oregon

I just acquired a 9800XT to replace my 5900U - which drivers are the best to do heavy gaming (Battlefield Vietnam, UT2004, FarCry)? I also like to play a lot of videos and such. I have messed with Radeon cards in the past but I have never used one in my own system - the other times I had just built machines with radeons in them and used the drivers on the installation CD, whatever versions they were.

Oh yeah, the particular card is the Asus Radeon 9800XT.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi
My advice based on my experience is to use the catalyst 4.3. They should give you an extra boost. They work best for me. And i supose to all XT owners.
cheers

Seems like I remember a lot of the guys like the 3.9s' and the 3.10s', but it sounds like the 4.3s' are pretty good, too. (except some were getting overheating issues)

Right now, I use the 3.9s' and everything runs fine.

Thanks for the help. I am running the 4.3 catalysts right now, and everything runs great. One little problem I noted is with farcry, with shadows, like if i am standing under a tree, instead of the normal shadow color it is like green or brown and just looks nasty. I might try to rollback to 3.9 and see if that fixes it.
