Angry ME3 for PC......Needs Controler Support! - 05-11-2012, 08:31 | posts: 1,456 | Location: Ohio/USA

I can't believe it doesn't support controlers!
This game is 3rd person and built for the controler....
So i guess i'll get it for my PS3 used for $30....
No thanks, to EA and Bioware!!

Then i can see how much better this game is with a controler...
Then i will update this thread..

Man, at least give us a choice....

I agree, I was just thinking about how I don't want to play it again with a mouse and keyboard. The controls screamed for a gamepad.

I used Xpadder to play Mass Effect 3 with a controller and it worked fine though not perfectly as the menu is clearly designed for a mouse which means it feels clunky using the analogue stick to move a pointer around. Still it's better than nothing and saved me having to fork out for the inferior Xbox 360 or PS3 version.

BioWare are just pig-ignorant though IMO, failing to support what is generally accepted as a standard controller these days. Many other games manage to support both the controller and mouse/keyboard and seamlessly switch between them so there's absolutely no reason that BioWare games can't. They already have the interface, HUD and controller icons from the PS3/Xbox 360 version anyway!

It seems to me like they're afraid to implement the controller in case those few elitist PC gamers accuse the game of being a lazy console port. Why else would they not support a controller? The Witcher 2 did and that's more of an RPG than Mass Effect has ever been! Mass Effect 3 plays pretty much like any other third-person shooter, in fact it's a third-person cover-based shooter first and an RPG second and most other developers manage controller support for those types of games, e.g. Binary Domain is a recent example.

I think it is worse they made us edit an .ini file in ME2 to get rid of mouse acceleration, now that is bad.

I don't get the argument "This game is 3rd person and built for the controller", it's not built any more for the controller than it is for mouse and keyboard.

Yeah. 3rd person view has nothing to do with it in my opinion.

I've played ME1 and 2 but have yet to play number 3. I didn't have a problem using the keyboard and mouse; will I need a controller for ME3? Are the controls any different?

I completely disagree with that as I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 on my 360 with a controller far more than I did the same game on my PC. But that's not the point; there's no excuse to not offer people a CHOICE. After all almost every other PC game supports a controller and keyboard/mouse just fine. BioWare are just being stubborn IMO and refuse to adapt to PC gaming in 2012.

If you'd read my earlier post then you'll know that I am already using Xpadder. However, it is not ideal as the interface is still designed for mouse use.

True..
I am using X-padder and it works very good but like you said menu screen made for keyboard and mouse...

I don't get it they make a game to work with a controller but then a menu with a kb&mouse......

Just face facts it's a console game built for a controller...So just let us use it.

And bye the way 3rd person is best with controllers..Why do you think most games on consoles are in 3rd person?
Witcher 2 = controller
Sports games = controllers
Strategy = kb&m
1st person = Kb&m
3rd person = controller.
Racing games = wheel.....
Flight sims = flight stick.....
Asteroids = joystick.......

You play the way you want, but i know what works best.
Are you going to play Dark Souls later this year with a kb&m?

Or Pinnacle Game Profiler - they even have premade profiles for ME3 based on the PS3 controller scheme.

I guess you don't play the kind of games benefit from a controller on the PC then?

I mean I wouldn't dream of playing Sonic Generations, FIFA 12, Need for Speed The Run or Assassin's Creed: Revelations with a mouse and keyboard. But then I wouldn't want to play Tales of Monkey Island, Company of Heroes or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II with a controller either.

Different control schemes suit different games. The keyboard/mouse is certainly not ideal for all PC games IMO.

With KB/M you have a choise of 90 degree movement, or 45 degree movement in TPS games and action games....with a gamepad you can move in any direction you like.

Not only that but you can move in speed increments, something you cannot do either with a keyboard and mouse. With a keyboard and mouse you can only move in that direction, you can't do so at 1/4 or 1/8 speed.

Gamepad is superior in many game to a keyboard and mouse, not to mention more ergonomic.

KB/M purists just haven't experienced the joy of gaming at 1080p in front of a 55" TV with 7.2 surround sound.

Too busy rocking satellite speakers on their desk with non-discrete matrixed sound from a $400 sound card lolololol
