Windows locking up when sleeping. Google Chrome? -

It seems that my entire computer is locking up when I leave google chrome up, and my computer goes to sleep.
Everything wakes up with black borders everywhere, and I can't click anything. Task Manager won't even function. Any ideas?

If you dont have the same problem with any other browser then its time for you to look for a different browser, maybe firefox. Much better than chrome.

Debatable, Chrome is a lot more efficient and lean.
Anyways, that's besides the point, try another browser, if it is indeed Chrome, then reinstall it and clear out the existing user profile. This usually will fix the problem.

This may be me just being "Captain Obvious", but have you tested this out by trying to put the computer to sleep yourself rather then waiting for it to go to sleep?
You know, by selecting Sleep in the Start Menu.
Just saying.... in case you overlooked it... it would speed up your troubleshooting
BTW if it is only Chrome doing it and you really like Chrome... you could try Iron... it's basically Chrome but with better privacy from the "Google Gods"... i use the portable version for testing. But you could just install the normal one if you like. Here is where to get it: http://www.srware.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=18
Worth a try if all else fails.

Turned out it was google Chrome. I uninstalled, and I haven't really had the problem since.
Although, sometimes my computer goes to sleep while listening to Pandora/Slacker radio. Any idea why that would be?

Did you check your power settings? also i had the same issue but it was opera that was causing it. yet it only happened when opera was open. Windows can be funny at times.

I just realized that no one including me have questioned about the graphics driver, this sounds like a graphical issue come to think of it when I reread this thread.

I can sleep with Chrome up just fine, so it's not Chrome.

What it sounds like is you have your hard drives set to go to sleep after x amount of time of inactivity. Go to power settings, tell HD and Monitor to never shut off..... that's what I do, or increase the time....

Hmm. I'm on the latest version of my video driver available (aside from a beta). What about the video driver would cause this to lock up?
It seems like when the display goes to sleep it's locking up (mozilla) but usually only when I'm playing Slacker or Pandora.
I have my hdd set to go to sleep after 20 minutes, but it locks up well before that it seems. I'll move the time out and see what that does.

Try to uninstall and install it again. Might work. I'm also wondering why your browser can make your computer sleep...

I actually did uninstall and reinstall. No help.
Actually it doesn't make it go to sleep, it is set to go to sleep automatically.
Typically, when playing Slacker or Pandora the browser should actually prevent the computer from sleeping.
Perhaps there is an issue going on there.

The problem is actually beginning to look like flash.
When the browser locks up, I can end the Flash task and it frees up the browser again.
Any ideas of what I can do about that?

From my experience, it is usually a faulty driver on your computer.
When the Dell E6500 laptops first came out, they wouldn't come out of sleep mode because of an error in the Webcam driver. I had to disable the webcam on a couple hundred laptops so people could use sleep mode until the next driver was released, updated the driver and it worked fine.
I would check for driver updates on all your drivers, not just your graphics card.
If you think it is flash, flash is built into Chrome which could be why you are experiencing this issue with Chrome open.
Check your Windows Event logs and see if anything is coming up in there.

I have the same exact issue and the problem is Chrome. This is a confirmed issue and for myself the problem has been with the last 3 or so versions of Chrome.
If I leave pretty much any other browser open then the PC sleeps fine. I have several PC's and in part it might have something to do with plug-ins. Currently, I'm running (2) Norton (Symantec NIS) which 'may' be the problem and AdBlock. There's no way I'm disabling Norton.
