Default am i guilty for not having a Facebook account ? - 04-19-2012, 23:13 | posts: 1,667 | Location: far,far from home

i loathe Fb,it gets me pissed beyond any measure...
call me old fashioned, altough i am member on various forums...
why in the good Heavens i get the looks when i say casually-No i don't have an FB account, hell i don't want one...
is it SO important to have one ?
it gives you superpowers ?
ah,crikey ,several clients told me that i must lack tech skillz for not having one, maybe i don't know how to create an account...they offered to help me make one....
i has stomach spasms for several hours.
sorry for wasting your time
i couldn't help myself

well, you see, first it was college students only - then they opened up registration and 30-something hipsters & high school kiddies joined. now everybody and their mother has an account

older folks use it to keep in touch with friends from years ago - younger people chat and organize social stuff. everyones profile seems to be stupid posturing, not much genuine expression to be found. some people have 20 friends, and some have 1k (heh).

social media is here to stay for a while, but take solace in the fact that asinine fads are, well, just that. if you dont have a use for an account, stay away.

my face when my friends post stupid crap nobody cares about 24/7

No there is nothing wrong with you, you are not broken, It is them. I gave up Fakebook over a year ago and haven't looked back, same **** different day. Thing is when something gets repetitive enough, it will surely wear thin.

@Hallryu Epic picture.

A girl forced to make one a few years ago... I have family and friends all over the country, so it's useful for interaction. I would call or text them if it's more urgent of course.

Don't bother with people who have over 1,000 friends, duckface girls, kids, or gloaters. Don't add people just because you work(ed) or went to school with them.

i don't have time for it,no desire for it,no reason to have one.
I have a phone and mail account
More than enough.
Ps..people with more than 1ooo friends ¿.....?
By my definition a friend is a person who comes to your house when you are sick and borrows some bread when you are hungry and you're broke.

Nothing wrong with that OP.. fight the power! I've never once had any desire to have an account and still don't. I disgree with everything about facebook.. I feel like the initial idea was good, but they've taken it way too far and people are way too liberal on there.

That, and I really don't need to know/care about what people had for breakfast and lunch and what show they're currently watching and why its so funny. ZZZZZZZ

No one really has a thousand friends, but they are just contacts. I would consider someone a close friend if you have their number.
Yeah there are people that add anyone or accept all friend requests. There are some exclusions though. If you are using your FB as a business tool like many of my photographer friends, then those aren't all your friends, but clients or potential clients. Kinda twisted if you think about it. The same goes for event promoters.

Then there are girls that add anyone because girls like the attention or need self esteem, but don't give them any.

I've had a FB account for a few year, but I think I've made a total of one status update/comment/whatever. I find it useful for sending personal messages to friends when I don't have their email and others looking for me, but I just don't care about the rest.

My wife gets annoyed when she posts some cute comment to me and I reply in person to her instead of commenting back...

In the end, the experience you have on Facebook is created by the people you call friends. Have crappy friends, add crappy friends; crappy facebook. As FULMTL puts it, if all you ever add is extended/immediate family and very close friends, nothing bad comes from it (unless of course you hate your family and close friends...)

Nothing wrong with Facebook as such, it is only as good, or as bad as the people on it.

It's hypocritical to moan about a social networking site on an internet forum anyway.

I use mine more as a news feed for things i'm interested in, and for that it works well, it's also handy for close friends and family when it comes to sharing pics of events etc...

My main issue is that it is full of bored people posting nonsense so someone comments and they get some attention, and while most people i know are adding friends, i spend more time deleting people, either due to realising i haven't spoken to them in years, or just getting bored of their attention seeking.
