Question Modem or MoBo problem - 03-21-2012, 07:44 | posts: 154 | Location: Australia

Hello people.
I have an onboard NIC with Asus M4N98TD-evo.

I have a D-Link G604T series 2.

The LAN light blinks now and then. TPG tells me that connection light should be on solid.

I replaced the cable from tower to modem but the light still blinks. The status says "Connected" but I can't open any browser.

Can this mean the NIC or the modem is going belly up?
Or maybe both?

Regards from Mik.

Errrrmmm...

can you elaborate on "I can't open any browser"? If you really can't open any browser (just start the program), then it clearly has nothing to do with your hardware.

Thanks, SirDremor,
can you elaborate on "I can't open any browser"? This means, from the desktop, I left click on Mozillafirefox icon and the page opens and looks for google. It can't find google.
I try any other bookmark such as Yahoo or Guru3D and it can't find it.
Is that enough info?

The ISP (TPG) helped me today. It could read my modem router, tell how many times I reset it, how many times I rebooted. My LAN can ping the router fine. It seems to be as if the routers front and back doors are open, but the middle door is shut.
The help over the phone didn't help, but the TPG operator said connect the computer to my son's modem.
I did this and the internet connection worked fine with both computers using the one modem router.
I then moved my computer back to its place and when I hooked it all up again, the internet connection works fine.
Has anybody else had a problem because your machine was sick of the view and wanted to visit another room?
I don't understand these things.
I had a TV that needed a ride on a skateboard along the garden path to make it work again.
Sometimes to many time technology is a bitch.
make of this what you wish.
