"yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U."
very weak, was expecting much better, guess this is what happens when they have to rush something to compete with nintendo
and since sony are going to skip e3 this year, and are not really developing a console as fast as MS, I bet the next PS will be the most powerful this generation, but last out

I honestly don't care how much graphics they can pump out. Gameplay is the only thing consoles have going for them anyways, since they are always several generations behind, despite being called "next gen". The PC is the only way to go if you want the best graphics. and with sony and microsoft mostly using the same idea of "Button controls" as the atari, perhaps straying with a stereoscopic camera peripheral, or a patent nightmare like PS Move, the Wii U is the only platform offering something we don't already have in the way of gameplay. There is really no such thing as "Next gen" consoles, and the damn things are bottle-necking the PC game industry with all this "Multi-platform" Bull-crap. Game developers are having to develop with the weakest platform in mind. And we get stuck with screw-ups like Skyrim, which, although a spectacular game, feels too much like a console game. Ahh, but the increasing price of console technology from generation to generation, compared to the steady (As well as often dropping) prices of PC hardware, is probably going to doom the console industry (Along with the system locking of games for xbox 720 and ps4, of course) so I guess I've griped more than I need to...

Define 'latest games'.
I don't really care about consoles one way or another, I care about what their existence implies for gaming I do care about however.
We're still not going to see anything more than 720p/30 with this level of hardware.

Well hopefully it has 1GB of VRAM and at least 2GB of system RAM so they won't have to scale it down draw distance or LOD so much.
Power consumption wise, it's a good choice. Hopefully they will finally use 4xAA and 4xAF in all games...

It's for 720p or sub-HD gaming. 512Mb Vram will be enough. And noAA.
Ofcourse they will use DX11.

Why are people surprised with this? We all know that the hardware inside the consoles can´t be too powerfull because of physical (heat) and financial (cost of the parts) constraints.
Also after the success of the Wii, MS and Sony aren´t going to produce expensive consoles when they know lower priced consoles will fare just as good and will provide bigger margins for them.
Still, I must say i was hoping they would put something like an 6850 on the next console...
Oh well, looks like PC gamers will have to get used to ****ty ports for the near future...

Upscaled from 720p to 1080p most probably
Instead of the 540p (or whatever) to 720p that they get now.

1080p will be the absolute minimum. and given the price of ram at the moment, theres no reason why they wouldnt bump up the amount of ram.
and if microsoft does not support 4k resolution, chances are sony will release their console with support for the 4k resolution standard of hdmi and microsoft will just release a 'revision' that supports it. they will probably only use 4k resolution for movies though, otherwise they'd need dual 7970s for a decent framerate.
